The Way The Racket Works

By Mitch Berg

Joe Doakes notes the MNGOP’s big problem.  I’ll add emphasis:

The DFL Governor and DFL Legislators have cut a deal to give more money to children and unions and have it all done by Tuesday. If only those pesky Republicans would agree.

Which they won’t of course, since this is the same pie-in-the-sky nonsense the DFL has been spouting all along, when not devoting the session to social issues such as gun control, gay marriage and bullying in schools.

And when Republicans don’t blindly sign on to the DFL program, why then the shut-down and special session and laying-off-of-cops will all be Republicans fault. Because Democrats had it all worked out, you see, and the Republicans ruined it.

We need better PR people, so WE can get ahead of the news cycle, for once.

Joe Doakes

I wonder if the MNGOP and the caucuses will ever figure that out.  The way they’re doing it just isn’t working.

I heard on the radio this morning, that the Gov and leg were looking for an additional 2 billion dollars in revenue. Minnesota’s population is about 5,350,000. So that works out to about $375 additional from every man, woman, trans and child in the state. Plus the additional that your local city, county and school district want.

The Republicans aren’t at the negotiating table. I don’t think that blaming them will work this time. If Republicans do sign on to the DFL plans, they will share the blame when things go bad.

    Joe:

I think this is a winner for the Republican Party.

    We can show:

Shutdowns are caused when more money wants to be spent and the Republicans didn’t do that.

Responsibility comes from doing your job up front. At this time of 2011 the Republicans had passed their budget already and was trying to make a deal with Mark Dayton.

We still don’t know what will be in the final deal.

Sadly the “we” who can show this are only able to show it to one audience: “us.”

I agree with Mr. Hanson that the GOP has a number of great, almost inarguable, points to make against the DFL; truth and logic are with us.

Unfortunately, no one hears them when they are made because they are quashed by the media and ignored by the DFL. Additionally, the message is far more complex than the babble of the left, so many voters would not be able to comprehend it. Or are afraid to try. More proof that all-day kindergarten was long overdue.

Those of us on the right can only hope that the fairly obvious underhandedness of the DFL this session will sink in on its own and the majority of Minnesotans will “get it” on their own.

Spill enough seed on the ground and something might take … or was that a different Biblical reference? If it’s the one I’m thinking of it also applies …
