These Are The People Who Are Legislating Your Civil Rights
By Mitch Berg
A few years back, sentient people ridiculed Rep. Nancy Pelosi for saying we had to pass Obamacare to know what was in the bill.
Rep. Diane DeGette (D(im bulb)-CO) shows that even then it’s pretty doubtful liberal Democrats know what they’re talking about in re guns:
While participating in a public forum on gun control hosted by the Denver Post Tuesday, Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., said that the number of magazines will decrease over time as shooters fire bullets, CNS News reported.
“What’s the efficacy of banning these magazine clips? I will tell you, these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now, they’re going to shoot them,” she said.
She went on to say that “the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will be shot and there won’t be any more available.”
The bad news? DeGette doesn’t understand what she’s legislating about.
The worse news? The mainstream media in attendance probably don’t understand it either.
Somewhere in between? Her staff is no better or brighter (emphasis added to accelerate the ridicule):
DeGette’s spokeswoman Juliet Johnson issued a statement Wednesday, saying the congresswoman mispoke.
“The Congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years, and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,”
One might ask “is it important that legislators understand everything they legislate about?”
On the one hand, it’s probably a bit much to ask every legislator to understand everything about every issue; they get much of what they know via staff briefs and, I suspect, Google.
On the other hand? After “working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years”, it seems a little absurd that DeGette apparently hasn’t the faintest idea what she’s legislating about.

This is why the United States lost WW II: we ran out of clips for our M-1’s and couldn’t re-use them.
The truly scary part is the “correction” is as dumb as the original statement, but it’s played straight by the media so Low Information Voters will think “oh, she just mis-spoke, no big deal, stop picking on her.”

Don’t be silly. We all know that leftists would never subject civil rights to a vote. That would ruin there whole ‘don’t let the plebes vote on anything where we might lose’ strategy.

Connecticut has or is about to enact a “gun control” law. The Connecticut Constitution states:
“Every citizen has a right to bear arms in defense of himself and the state.”
(Article I, Declaration of Rights, Section 15.)
A citizen of Connecticut will have to pay $35 every 5 years for a license to exercise their right. If you have to pay to exercise an enumerated right, it is no longer a right. I’d like the Democrats and Republicans in Connecticut to try and enact a law that requires reporters and journalists to pay $35 every five years to exercise their enumerated rights.

How about $35 every 5 years to vote? And a background check prior to casting each vote to ensure you are still eligible?

This woman is a typical liberat sycophant. A citizen asked her a question about defending himself and her uneducated answer was; “Fortunately for you, the Denver police will be there in five minutes.” His response was that he could be dead in five minutes. Then she went mute with the stupid, but smug grin that liberat politicians are famous for.

Feature, not a bug, for the leaders when dealing with uppity peasants.

Twitchy had a write-up about this babbling idiot. Scroll down and read the tweets in response to her from JR Salzman. Make sure you swallow whatever you are taking a drink from first, in order to protect your monitor/laptop screen.

“Madam legislator, if an armed felon with a handgun is running towards you, and I have a clear shot at him with my AR-15, should I defend your life or call the Denver police?”

Many readers may not familiar with firearms and terminology. If the topic were golf or computers, I would be scratching my head. My apologies if I’m underestimating the audience, but please allow me to be the coffeebreak commando for a minute:
“Clips” basically hold rounds together so they can be inserted all at once into the firearm and fired. Once the last round is fired, the clip is usually ejected from the firearm and the gun is ready for the next loaded clip.
In battle the expended clips are often left behind after being replaced by a loaded one. However, the expended clips can be easily re-filled with ammunition and reused over and over. Like anything, they can eventually wear out. However, it would take a lot of use. Like magazines, empty clips are often sold as spare/replacement parts.
It is easy to confuse “clips” and “magazines” as they pretty much serve the same purpose; ability to load multiple rounds in one movement.
Indeed, her excuse is just as, if not more, stupid than her original statement. Maybe more-so since she had time to properly correct her first statement. I wonder how she feels about electronic pull tabs?

Voting is not an enumerated right.
Some days, it’s like teaching kindergarten around here . . .

In theory, in a running gun battle soldiers would mostly likely eject a magazine and leave it behind while reloading the next. Standard combat load for an infantryman is 210 rounds, and extra ammo that we might carry (in a rucksack or a Humveee) would already be loaded into a mag.
In practice, we reuse magazines for years, reloading whenever needed.
Perhaps what the Congresswoman was thinking of were rocket launchers? Such as this inert training AT4 that was actually turned into an LA gun buyback program?

Well, the 15th, 19th and 24th Amendments pretty well enumerate it. Certainly the 24th prohibits poll taxes. Ok, teach?

9th amendment, Loren.
The first 8 amendments in the bill of rights are the enumerated rights.
