Well, Blow Me Down

Being a conservative, I don’t generally much care about celebrities’ political leanings (and was embarassed by the slavish devotion to pop culture and the celebrity party circuit that seemed to preoccupy the local Sorosphere in the weeks leading up to the Republican National Convention in Saint Paul).

But this bit on “right-leaning celebs”, along with a few “no, duhs”, had a few surprises.

Of course, plenty were just plain obvious:  Chuck Norris, Richard Petty, Trace Adkins, Tom Clancy, Ahnold, Ben Stein, Tom Selleck and Elizabeth Hasselback? Pretty much public knowledge.

A few others made some waves, largely for the act of “coming out”:  John Voight, Angie Harmon and Stephen Baldwin.

A few, I gotta confess – and remember, I’m a conservative, so I really don’t pay that much attention to the subject – surprised me:  Bruce Willis, John Elway, Pat Sajak, Dennis Hopper, Rick Schroeder and Robert Duvall?

And seeing the list, I’m starting to figure out why it took Susan Lucci so long to win that Daytime Emmy…

Still, if only Mike Ditka had managed to run against a young Barack Obama for the Senate; he’s have won with 95% of the vote, he’d be president today, per-capita income would have doubled, and Franklin Raines would be doing push-ups and wind-sprints in Leavenworth.

Seriously.

  1. I didn’t think Pat Sajak was as big a surprise. He’s been rather outspoken for years. Rush Limbaugh subbed for his ill-fated late-night show some 20 years ago.

  2. John Elway…best quarterback ever. And Robert Duvall…sexiest man on the planet. Both things were true before I knew they were conservative, but at least my opinion of them didn’t have to be tarnished with the knowledge that they are politcal morons (ala Steve Earle).

  3. Saw Curt Schilling on Hannity and Colmes last night. He mentioned what happened to him after he came out in support of Bush in 2004.

Even in professional sports, descent is not tolerated.

  4. From the mouths of wingnuts…

Yes Chuck, Schilling’s support of Bush certainly caused him to descend in Angryclown’s estimation.

  5. That’s what he said…some guy came up to him, asked him to smell the flower on his lapel, then squirted him with water.

  6. McCarthyism! CBS News is compiling a “Black List” & making it public!

The only thing that surprised me was Mike Ditka thought about running for US Senate. Considering Obama won that race essentially by default, Alan Keyes was not much competition, Ditka would have had a very good shot.

Of course if George W Bush had not squandered his chance to be a great conservative leader, instead of choosing to be a “go-along-to-get-along” toady, No one would even care if the Dems were running this year.

  7. “Schilling’s support of Bush certainly caused him to descend in Angryclown’s estimation. ”

Somehow i doubt that Schilling loses sleep worrying about AC’s ‘estimation’ of him.

  8. I treated that article with a healthy dose of skepticism due in part to the writing.

The article seems to make these ideas equal:
    ~ Voted for a Republican
    ~ Registered Republican
    ~ Endorsed a Republican
    ~ Supported a Republican
~ Donated to a Republican or some Republicans
    ~ Conservative ideas
    ~ Publicly introduced a Republican
    ~ Questioned the left
~ Holds some Repulican ideals or supports part of the platform

Someone supports G.W., well, you don’t need to be a Republican to do that. ([Jewess Jeans]”But it couldn’t hurt”[/Jewess Jeans])

Some of those folks are simply anti-left, pro-America, or standing behind the President.

Now, James Woods and Ron Silver may have since changed parties, but last I heard they still identified themselves as liberal guys who support the war and who don’t get all deranged about President Bush.

They are the loyal opposition… not Republicans. That’s perfectly fine, too. We love the Loyal Opposition.

  9. He’s not the only one, but I’m not sure I actually believe you, Clown. Considering the talk I suspect that to be an opinion of convienence.

  10. Democrats love the Loyal Opposition too, Baddabing. His name is “John McCain.”
To be a conservative and be loyal to the United States, you have to exhibit steadfastness in enduring years of physical torture for your country.
If you’re a lib, all you gotta do is exhibit a degree from Harvard.

  11. Haha! I get it! Cause “socialist” is the word of the week for you wingnuts, handed down to you by the RNC. You kooks shift very naturally from Joe the Plumber to Joe the McCarthy, don’t ya?

Any idea whether that’ll stick any better than “terrorist,” “elitist” or “unqualified”?

Good luck. Six days left. Tick, tick, tick…

  12. I think almost everyone else gets what “spread the wealth around” means, angryclown. This “word of the week” thing is something that just comes to mind, if you know what the word “socialist” means.
