Since the last 30 years have been nothing other than the redistribution of wealth upward into the hands of very very few, I suppose it’s time to bitch about trying to fix that. That certainly will help.

  2. PeterH Says:

After the investment bankers get there, will there be any more wealth to share?

  3. Plymouth Mike Says:

PenIGma, I have got to hear you explain what you mean by the first half of your comment. If you can. JRoosh, this is going to be good.

And that was accomplished how … ?

  5. JRoosh Says:

The top 25% of income earners pay over 85% of all income taxes paid to the Federal Government.

The Bottom 50% pay 3% of the total.

Now that you know these facts Maligna, care to change your testimony?

  6. Terry Says:

Even a cursory look income tax paid by quintile shows that the wealthy are paying a greater share of total income tax receipts than they were thirty years ago. Peev seems to think that a Paul Krugman column has some significant acquaintance with reality.
This does point to greater inequality — the wealthy are wealthier (compared to median income) than they were back in the 70’s — but how this is due to ‘redistribution’ is known only to peevish. Who distributed the money in the first place? If all money belongs to the government that kind of cuts the legs out from under the liberal ‘I am appalled that my tax money is going to fund capitalism, wars, and pollution’ argument.

“It ain’t your money, prole. It’s the government’s. Get back to work. And by the way, I’ve scheduled you for four hours of voluntary overtime today.”

  7. Badda Says:

Pernicious Peev’s idea of Redistribution of Wealth from the poor to the wealth:

[evil]Someone produces a product or service and sells it to someone else.[/evil]

  8. Mr. D Says:

The funny part of Peev’s comment is this – the really uber-rich folks like Soros and Warren Buffett are Democrats.

If Peev’s theory is right, then Buffett and Soros are really ungrateful bastards, no?

  9. Bike Bubba Says:

The past 30 years nothing but the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer?

Funny, I guess I need to check my stats, ’cause I’ve got abundant evidence of how I, though not being rich by any stretch of the imagination, have prospered in the past 30 years.

Maybe we need some Carter era gas lines to remind us of how good we’ve had it.

I recall the author (then singular) of this blog complaining a while back about John Edwards hair and his $400 haircuts. I wonder how he feels about $22,500 on stylists….

But hey, you guys (and gals) aren’t elitists or anything. Nosireebob, you betcha.

Hey Bikey – and the rest of you neo-conners – anecdotes don’t mean squat. Go tell Joe the Plumber or any other average Joe, how much better off he is today than 30 years ago, try to bring some facts along, and see how you far you get. You DO understand I assume that the standard of living, when measured by hours worked to pay, especially considering the costs of education and healthcare, was far better in 1976 than it is today for the average American, right? Misery index or no, at least wages grew with inflation, and what would you call today’s situation, with retirement savings destroyed by the illusory stock market, wages that DON’T keep up even with inflation, offhored high-paying jobs, and state colleges costing more than $10,000 year in tuition, non-misery??

BTW Bike – go look at the SE if you are looking for gas lines.

  11. Terry Says:

Well, peev, if the plight of the working man concerns you, why aren’t you against importing a few million unskilled, low paid, non-Americans each year to compete for his job? It doesn’t make sense to whine about off-shoring jobs when you are happy to import workers to the US to take American jobs.
The “income redistribution” you complain about seems to be employers redistributing labor costs from American workers to non-American workers.

Yet – not ONE NEW WELL has been dug… hmmmm…….

Maybe Oil prices were artificially high, maybe the oil companies and oil speculators have the ability to influence the market, maybe the push to drill in ANWR and offshore was really about the lack of new fields for US oil companies rather than about dwindling supply overall..

    tool=GOP

  13. Kermit Says:

Peev is right! If only we had but one political party America would be a much better place. Kinda like North Korea, except the grass and leaf soup would taste better.

  14. Terry Says:

Peev, for a person who works in the finance industry you don’t seem to know much about capitalism or economics.
The price of oil has gone down because demand has gone down. Demand has gone down because there are fears of a global recession.
Industries around the world use petroleum products to manufacture and transport the goods they produce. They are planning on not producing as much goods as they had planned. They are not planning on producing as much goods because people don’t have the money to pay for them. This is not a good thing.
Good God peev. You can’t say that the rising cost of gasoline AND the falling cost of gasoline are both proof that the prices are being manipulated by greedy oil companies and speculators. Don’t you have any common sense?

  15. JRoosh Says:

Peev, for a person who works in the finance industry you don’t seem to know much about capitalism or economics.

    Say Terry…

Listen, I hate to disagree with you.

I know that a Meter Maid handles money, but that doesn’t quite qualify as a job in the finance industry. Sorry.

  16. jackscrow Says:

This is the most telling comment I’ve ever read on a blog: “… try to bring some facts along, and see how you far you get.”

    Wow.

    … Wow.

  17. Plymouth Mike Says:

Hey PIGenma, You couldn’t explain your comment! Why? Because your head is full of nonsense! You can’t defend what you say, you can only hurl insults. It’s sad that you use your intellect to wipe your butt.
