Re: Racism
Mr. Cafferty – let me ask you this: If a political party nominates a black person who believes in nothing I believe in, supports no policies I support, and shows active contempt for a good part of this nation (a part where I grew up, by the way), and is utterly unqualified for office, and I don’t vote for him for those reasons, am I a racist?
I look forward to your answer.
That is all.
Mitch Berg

I especially liked the posts bringing up the Swan and Steele losses. Those are obviously attributed to “racism”.
However, I do live in Southern Ohio, and there are a significant number of Demo voters (especially in KY and WVa, but also in Ohio) who will never vote for a black man.

Unfortunately, there may be an infinitesimal percentage of Americans who will not vote for Obama because he is black.
However, there is a higher percentage of Americans who will vote for Obama solely on the basis of race. The reasons for that could take up another blog post.

The question is, which number is higher…..people who will not vote for Barry because he is 1/2 black, or people who wil not vote for Governor Palin because she is a mainstream Protestant Christian?

In all fairness, it’s good to know that Palin’s critics resisted the temptation to call her “white trash.” For one or two seconds, anyway.

Brad’s point here: “…However, there is a higher percentage of Americans who will vote for Obama solely on the basis of race. The reasons for that could take up another blog post.” gets it mostly right.
The voters who would vote for Obama because he is black, would be voting for ANY democrat. That may be a reason, but not their main one….
Of the Dem voters who won’t vote for him because he IS black, some may cross over, but most will just stay home.
Of course this isn’t taking into account the NEW Dem Registrants, and there are quite a few, who’s main reason IS race….
Chuck’s statement makes no sense. The amount of people chased off the ‘pub ticket by Palin is very small. Those people offended by the Christian right are already ‘dem voters. How many conservative atheists are there?

Yes, because we have so many options to vote for if not a protestant christian (except in our local Senate race, of course).
