People With Whom I Share A City

By Mitch Berg

Chino Latino is an hYpStR restaurant in Minneapolis.

I’ve never been there, but pretty much everyone I’ve ever known who clamed to be a regular seemed like the kind of person that’d be on Molly Priesmeyer’s speed dialer, if you know what I mean.

But I saw this, and almost wished I could be regular…:

…just so I could stop going in a loud huff.

Oh, come on. It’s kind of funny.

How about the Daily Show billboard? Funny?

  2. Kermit Says:

Sure Jeff. Liberal racism is always a hoot.

  3. Bike Bubba Says:

I can’t remember what the billboard said, but I saw one in Minnetonka that just made me go “ewwww….” a few months back.

If you know what I’m talking about, please don’t remind me. I don’t need to know.

  4. Chuck Says:

I shall go there and steal something from them. I think everyone should dine and dash at Chino.

  5. DiscordianStooj Says:

Illegal protest marches? Commenters encouraging theft? What has this place come to, Mitch?

  6. Master of None Says:

Last time I ate at Chino Latino, I had a very bad case of DiscordianStool.

  7. Terry Says:

They seem to have a fine selection of Filipino delicacies. Ask for the balut!
Since this must be a non-profit restaurant, I expect the won’t mind if you dine-n-dash.

  8. Seflores Says:

Let’s surround the building and while chanting “Love, Peace and transfat grease”, use transcendental meditation to lift and shake some unpaid for food out of this joint. Stop bathing and washing your clothes, now. It’s the democratic way. (Or is that capital “D”?)

  9. buzz Says:

Ok, wait. Your saying a business is advertising for more business by offering a capitalist pig roast? Interesting. Are the meals free? Or at least served at cost, right?

  10. Terry Says:

I bet the place is run by faux-hemians.

  11. soliah.com Says:

Lake and Hennepin. Ground Zero of the Lakefront Liberals.

  12. unclebenjamin Says:

I have no idea who the owners are, but they are brilliant capitalists. Uptown, where Chino Latino is located, is pinker than a rash. Dissing capitalism to get business is good business and pretty funny to boot. Plus the food isn’t bad.

Each to his/her own; I think it’s kind of funny. For once, I’m with Jeff “Not the Gun Guy” Rosenberg, as I find the Daily Show billboard funny, too.

By and large, I find it’s the left that just doesn’t get or do the self-deprecating humor thing; conservatives, generally, seem to enjoy making fun of conservatives, no matter who is doing it, as long as it’s well-intentioned.

(Digression: am I the only one who remembers Al Franken’s White House Correspondents dinner speech during the Clinton administration? He took shots at everybody, and it was probably the last time the guy was funny.)
