Had to pity the folks working the DFL booth, Saturday.
What with the NARN crowd on one side, blaring about how Obama is profoundly unsuited and unprepared to be President, and with Priscilla Lord Faris on the other, blaring about how Franken is profoundly unsuited and unprepared to be Senator.
This was supposed to the the Progressives year. Nixon was a crook, Ford a non-entity. Carter did a lot to move the progressive vision, Reagan was simply a temporary setback. Clinton was far too far to the right, but he was necessary to regain the reins of power after the Reagan interregnum. Gore was supposed to be the return to the path of inevitable progressive socialism.
And then that damned Dubya stole the election – twice!
But everybody hates Dubya, and now it’s time to sweep progressives to power – a repeat of 1932 or 1964. A progressive in the White House with a filibuster-proof progressive majority in Congress.
Except that it’s all falling apart in front of their eyes. The Convention is going to be half Wellstone Memorial and half mud-wrestling match. And Biden? “I’m the original author of the Assault Weapons Ban” Biden?
Obama just said goodbye to fifty electoral votes.
The Dems are on the verge of panic, and there you are across the street, nudging them closer to the edge.
Good job!
