Democrats: You’re Going To Need Some New Non-Issues

By Mitch Berg

Americans prefer Romney over Obama on the economy by more than 2:1!

That’s after a couple of weeks of Democrat harping on Romney’s bank accounts, tax returns, and his wife’s horse.

Americans would seem to be in a serious mood about economic matters.

But why, oh why, could that be?

  1. Sanity Says:

Yet Gallup still has Obama beating Romney overall, and the majority of Americans want Romney to release his tax returns (54% yes to 37% no):

I got an invite to participate in this survey via email this morning:

Read between the lines of this “survey”. Why do they even need to ask about this? Unless support for repeal of ACA is waning among their group ??

Pushing $16 trillion in national debt. That’s almost $60,000 for every man woman and child. Even the ones who aren’t here legally.

  3. The Big Stink Says:

But, Kerm, if you draw your sustenance from government, they can’t extract $60,000 from you, can they? It’s a win/win for the dependent class. The trick is to grow them into a majority of voters. That’s the plan!

TBS: unemployment, disability, food stamps. You nailed it.

  5. Kermit Says:

What happens when we run out of “rich” people to pay the tab?

The Gallup Poll Sanity links to is interesting because it says on the one hand – Obama leads on character issues but Romney leads on competence issues. If this election comes down to who is more competent this could be a walk for Romney. But bringing it back to the title of the post, Obama’s going to need to create non-issues like Hank Ford cranked out Model T’s. In my mind, people will read this as completely cynical on Obama’s part and it will go toward pointing out his incompetence in getting things done the first two years.
Based other items noted in my quick read – Obama’s youth vote appears to be falling off significantly and Romney’s swing state voters are more enthusiastic than Obama’s. This after the crap ton of money the Committee to Re-Elect dumped in June. I still think (but can’t prove) that people are lying to pollsters and this race is getting into 1980 territory.
As for Romneys tax returns, meh. He’s a wealthy guy, he probably pays a lot in tax dollars but like most wealthy people (like the Kennedy’s, Warren Buffet, etc) has relatively little “income” to tax so his percentage is lower than someone’s secretary (they still use that term in Omaha apparently).
I’m more interested (and would love to see a poll question regarding this) in seeing Obama’s education transcripts or the very least a certificate of achievement from the Toastmasters. I thought W was gaffe tastic! Barry’s now on his third explanation of his “you didn’t build that” Kinsleyian gaffe. Bit of a marroon, wouldn’t you say?

Kinda funny to think you wingnuts are suddenly interested in “competence.” Any port in a storm, eh? Next thing you kooks will come out in favor of education and the ability to pronounce “nuclear.”

  8. Bill C Says:

The ability to pronounce “corps” would be nice tho…

  9. Bill C Says:

As would the knowledge that Region 1 DVDs won’t work in Region 2 DVD players.

  10. The Big Stink Says:

Bill: Sarcasm is a stealthy craft. Your digs at AC will, no doubt, fly right over his head, but those of us who know what you’re referring to applaud. Well done.

  11. Leslie Hittner Says:

The survey question results: 63% thought Romney would make good economic decisions. 37% thought he would not make good economic decisions. No mention of Obama in the question these stats came from…
