If The Best Al Franken’s Oppo Research Can Find…

By Mitch Berg

…in a campaign where Al Franken – a guy who worked for a network that plundered a boys and girls club to pay his grossly-inflated salary – gets busted bobbling his taxes in dozens of states, to say nothing of a series of crimes against taste (that don’t bother me especially – he was a comedian, so they say, and a freelance writer of sorts – but seem to bother some Democrats)…

…is find that Senator Coleman got a 30% discount on a crappy apartment, then perhaps the DFL needs some better opposition researchers.

They nailed Durenberger on a similar charge and it cost him his reelection.
Remember, imagination is not a Democrat asset.

That link was a great take-down of the charges. But you can also say that a call center operates beyond normal business hours, so Coleman couldn’t have counted on that living room/media center/wet bar area being vacant and noise-free outside of late at night. No one has mentioned that Coleman’s bathroom wasn’t Coleman’s private bathroom, unless they figure that Larson’s employees either wore Depends adult diapers or ran to the nearest convenience store when they had to use the bathroom. I provided links to several offers of studio apartments in D.C., including one two blocks from the Capitol, that charged $675-800, in the various Strib discussion threads on this issue, and the lefties either ignored the links or called me a liar. What really offends me is that they were making hideous charges that Coleman was a homosexual or a wild womanizer or a pedophile who used that basement living space for orgies, and that Coleman gave Larson’s wife a job she didn’t work at as a payoff (Dorene worked much harder than the typical consituent service representative).

mefolk…..those Strib discussion boards are nasty. I have chosen to stay away from posting as I don’t have the temperment to deal with the loonies there. Their obsession with the Senators wife is disturbing. And their attacks on McCain’s military service……

I hear you, Chuck. I can’t resist contributing to some of those threads, though. But even here some of the lefty crazies go way out of line. In various discussions the moonbats have challenged my intelligence, my experience, my gender, my sexual orientation and the size of my schlong, and at no time did those barbs have anything to do with the subject at hand. I wish more ordinary folks could read what these goons write. Even our very own AC here seldom fails to disappoint with his witty and civil comments, such as his last to me: “shut the fuck up!”

The Strib boards are nasty. I used to play there but after a while it just got to be too much – all ad hominem, all the time. AC is a regular Noel Coward by comparison.

This was what I found when I returned to the Strib piece where the reporter visited Coleman’s digs: Going rate on the Hill
I live on capitol hill, which I guess makes me neighbors to Senator Coleman. Fact is, he is getting an incredible deal. The reporter’s attempt to make Senator Coleman sound like he may live like a bit of a slob to make the whole place seem less pricey doesn’t change the fact that there is NO place anywhere on the Hill where he could get a 1br for $600, unless he is willing to live far away and in a dodgy neighborhood. Most studios in the city go for at least $1000, and the ones on the Hill near the capitol will go for more than that. A 1br on the hill such as is described in this article should be going for about $1200 – 2000 depending on exactly how close it is. Don’t take my word for it, check out Craigslist in DC. Here’s an example of a place that sounds very similar to what Senator Coleman is renting: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/apa/753802965.html It goes for $1350.

I checked out his link: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/apa/753802965.html . Then I posted this in reply:
    bloody idiot erikpdumont
I went to your Craigslist find, and it is nothing like Coleman’s digs. Coleman has a tiny bedroom and a bathroom that he actually has to share with Larson’s employees who work in the majority of the basement space. The unit you referenced is a very nice one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. You are so eager to make a political attack that you don’t care about the truth. I linked to several rental properties in an earlier Strib discussion thread that cost eight hundred or less for a completely private and nice studio apartment. One was only a couple blocks from the Capitol Building. You cannot compare Coleman’s quarters with a private one bedroom apartment.

The Star-Tribune allows a lot to go on there. I have contributed to the Madison Capital Times boards (being a native of Wisconsin), and most of my comments gets deleted. And they aren’t bad, just reasonable arguements against the looney left of Madison. Apparently they don’t like diversity of thought.

I tried posting copy-and-paste from that most recent Coleman digs article in the Strib, and it disappeared. But if you go to that Strib discussion thread, you will see one of the howling moonbats build up his own credentials by claiming to live very near Coleman in D.C., and he goes on to claim that thirteen hundred or more is the going rate. Of course he ignores the fact that Coleman isn’t renting an apartment. I checked out the Craigslist listing the other poster was raving about, and discovered that it was a very nice one bedroom apartment with a full living room (with fireplace), a full kitchen and a full laundry room with washer and dryer. It was nothing remotely like Coleman’s situation.

  9. mefolkes Says:

Oh, great. I mention that my last comment disappeared, and now it shows up.

  10. angryclown Says:

Thirty percent? Spoken like somebody who knows exactly dick about D.C. apartment rentals. You can’t get a cardboard box on Capitol Hill for $857 a month, my prevaricating friend. Looks like he’s paying less than half. Oh, and Eastern Market ain’t Capitol Hill. It’s the next-over, less pleasant much less pleasant nabe trying to capitalize on the overheated Capitol Hill market.
