Opposition to the marriage amendment is a tactic in a larger strategy.

Gay Marriage advocates know they cannot win at the polls today. And they’re not willing to wait for persuasion to change hearts and minds. So they want gay marriage imposed by the courts as a violation of the Minnesota Constitution, reminiscent of abortion-on-demand. That’s how it was done in other states.

Judicial imposition of gay marriage will be immensely more difficult if the Minnesota Constitution is amended to define marriage as one-man-one-woman. So the bleating you hear about preserving the purity of the Constitution is a trial lawyer’s smokescreen to hide the real agenda.

The next step in the gay marriage agenda would be to insist churches endorse gay marriages. By “insist” I mean to endure the hammer of law.

Anyone care to debate that premise?

  3. nate Says:

If marriage is no longer defined as “one-man-one-woman,” what rationale is there to limit it to “any two adults?” If no-fault-divorce means Liz Taylor can have seven husbands serially, why not simultaneously? Polygamy and child marriage are now and historically have been in wide practice; on what basis can society deny those individuals their freedom to marry the person they love?

I’m looking for an intellectual, logical justification for limitations that doesn’t run afoul of the same discrimination claim gays make today.

  4. The Big Stink Says:

What you’re looking for, Nate, is a consistent and pure doctrine which cannot run afoul of law, convention or society’s largest concern, the propagation, and welfare, of children.

    We have one.

Nate, the perpetually aggrieved will always claim discrimination.

The Big Stink, Military Chaplins have already been informed that they must conduct gay marriages.
