Unintended Consequences
By Mitch Berg
One thing about liberals; when the courts rule in their favor, they demand compliance, and to silence all opposition (see: Planned Parenthood protests).
But let them lose a case, and their weaselling looks like one of those hapless schlubs on Cops: “Officer, can you prove that was me driving the car? Just seeing me alone in the car isn’t proof…”.
And the unintended consequences…well…
Carnivore at TvM noticed this little bit:
D.C. has decided that it will only register revolvers and is refusing to register semi-automatic handguns, the type which millions of people find suitable for self-defense and in common use.
So, the Ruger Mark II pistol chambered in .22LR, with 10 shot magazine is still banned.
But the Smith & Wesson 617 revolver in .22LR, with 10 shot cylinder is not banned.
The Smith & Wesson Model 500 revolver with massive .50 Caliber cartridge (Right) is OK.
(Not to scale)
But the Beretta 950 Tomcat chambered in marginal .32ACP with 7 shot magazine is still banned.
And lest you thought Carnivore wasn’t a real gun geek – yes, he did peg the ultimate handgun trivia question:
I wonder what the police manual says to do if someone tries to register a rare Webley-Fosbery semi-automatic revolver.
That’s right – a semi-automatic revolver.
(MINNESOROS MONITOR STAFFER: “You mean they’re not all semi-automatic?”)

Boy, you’d think after the big win, you gun kooks would give the whining for at least a week. Boohoo, I can’t force a city I don’t even live in to let people I don’t even know carry guns nobody there wants!
So stop whining and sue. That’s what you do when you want to be a huge pain in everyone’s ass and subvert popular local laws. Get an unelected judge to order all those bad men to do what you want. Besides, you kooks are armed to the teeth – surprised you don’t take, shall we say, more direct action?

Clown’s tune on judges overturning decisions of elected officials is changing, now that his ox is being gored. The difference is that this one rare time, the Supremes actually enforced the Constitution, not some Leftist wet dream masquerading as a shadow or an emanation or a penumbra.

Fear not, Kermie. No one’s forcing you to marry a dude.
Really, mefolkes? Angryclown’s tune is changing? Maybe you can find some statement Angryclown has made that’s inconsistent with his current views. That or shut the fsck up. Cause that’d work too.

“Boy, you’d think after the big win, you gun kooks would give the whining for at least a week.”
Heller was only the first of three steps.
1. A ruling that the 2nd protects an individual right – done
2. A ruling that the 14th applies the 2nd to the states – suit in Chicago is pending
3. A ruling that gun control laws that apply burdensome restrictions on individuals absent findings of particular dangers by that individual are violations of due process – waiting on the completion of #2

Atta boy, jdege!
Give me some old time conservative judges bringing forth incorporation of the Bill of Rights and substantive due process!
Take that, elected legislatures!! It’s judicial conservative time!

Hopefully DC’s refusal to follow the SC’s ruling will be rewarded by putting the entire city council and mayor, along with the police chief, in jail for contempt of court.
Oh, and DC residents who want to get themselves armed quickly simply need to go black powder, which isn’t subject to the idiotic restrictions that modern guns are. Even better, I bet the gangbangers would love hearing the BOOM from, say, a nice .44 1861 Confederate pointed at them. Even if they aren’t hit, they’d be scarred for life.

And no one’s forcing you to own a gun.

No, but “subverting popular laws” isn’t just being done by “you guys”, now is it?

Clown’s just upset because he prefers the gun ban due to his lousy aim. Clown prefers a different equalizer… the gun-ban kind. Because he’s a tyrannt.

mangy clown thought this one was the only gun that existed.
July 1st, 2008 at 6:19 pm
Actually I thnk clown believes that either we have legislatures able to make and enforce unconstitutional laws or we have legislating from the bench, e.g. ‘activist judges’.
This is, of course, a false choice.

The “I” here would be the SCOTUS?
“I don’t even live in”
Oh, I can only complain about tyranny when I experience it. A common refrain, but I don’t accept it.
“to let people I don’t even know”
Oh, I can only complain about tyranny when I ‘know people’ who experience it. A less common refrain, but no more acceptable.
“carry guns nobody there wants”
I don’t know Heller personally, but I think he lives there, and I think he wants to carry.
“Boohoo”
I see why you started with the crying, reading this lameness even made me feel sad for you angryclown. :-/
