No Stadium Taxes
By Mitch Berg
Don’t forget – if you live in Ramsey County, they’re collecting petition signatures against a stadium tax at Donatelli’s in White Bear today from until 6PM.
Let’s kill this idea but good.

I see Twins owner Jim Pohlad has given a fairly healthy sum of money to the pro-gay marriage crowd.
So is this why we have had our taxes raised? So we can subsidiize Pohlad’s political causes? I say this as a big Twins far and a supporter of gov’t money used to pay for Target Field. But I have had enough of giving free money to billionaires.
I see it more as a big F U to the people of Minnesota from the Twins mgmt and ownership.

In Minneapolis we signed petitions and got the law changed to require a vote before public money was spent on stadiums. Along came a stadium proposal and law or no law suddenly no vote was required. The law didn’t change the pols just decided to ignore it.
Sign your petition if you like but, remember when they want it done they’re just gonna do it anyway.

jp makes a great point with his last statement.
Now, being a resident of one of the most, if not the most taxed counties in MN, I deplore paying higher taxes to fund stadiums. That said, I am still torn over losing the Vikings and subsidizing Zyggy. As I have pointed out before, I only hope that it ends up outside of Hennepin county if for no other reasons than to deprive the Red Star of all of that game day parking revenue and RT Rybak of his victory dance!
