Corruption Finds Its Outlet

On the surface, the conviction of Anthony Pellicano on 76 of 77 counts against him closes the chapter on yet another tedious LA trial with media and showbiz connections.  The temptation to wash ones hands of the whole sordid business – like yet another OJ or Heidi Fleiss trial – is certainly there.

But Patterico has a great wrapup of what this story means.

Read it,naturally.

It’s illegal to pay off judges, cops and prosecutors.  It’s against the law to tamper with juries.  But paying off the press is not only legal – it’s a cost of doing business for some people and, as Patterico shows, part of a day’s work for parts of the media.

  1. How disappointing! When Angryclown read the phrase “paying off the press,” he jumped to the silly conclusion that the link might have had some claim about paying off the press. Of course, nothing of the kind is even claimed. Oh, and go ask a prosecutor if “taking payoffs” is legal for reporters. You’ll likely learn about a little thing called “conspiracy.”

No, but I learned about a little thing called “Whoopass by the gallon”.

Gawd, that hurt. Turned out the “Prosecutor” was really Vin Diesel on a bad bender. Crap.

I have to learn to be more detail oriented.

  3. So the PI the Clintons’ used to try and defuse their bimbo-bomb was a also a sleazebag extortionist. A big, giant, unmistakable-by-anyone-for-anything-else sleazebag extorionist.
No surprise there. The info ties in well with an essay in the current TNR about the failures of the Hillary! campaign. The author quotes one unnamed Hillary! campaign insider:
Devastating vulnerabilities such as Obama’s associations with Wright and Ayers were not unearthed by the campaign’s vaunted research team in time to be fully taken advantage of–despite being readily available in the public domain.
This is because Hillary!’s ‘vaunted resaerch team’ could not conceive of a reason why a politician’s association with a confessed domestic terrorist and a race-hating bigot could be grounds for criticism.
