Attention, Corrupting Moneyed Influences

By Mitch Berg

Over the past month, it’s come to my attention that I am the only Republican in Minnesota not getting money from either the Racino lobby, the Tribal lobby, or the anti-gambling lobby.

While I never, ever gamble, I’m also perfectly libertarian on the subject, and thus have no baggage on any side of the debate – making me the perfect spokesman for any take on the issue.

Please have your people call my people.  And get with the program.  Thanks.

Then you would be the perfect one to propose a solution to this problem. Simply suggest that if the Legislature, in their wisdom, decides that Minnesotans need more opportunities to gamble, then they should permit it in law with the proviso that State Government gets not one nickel out of it, other than normally due income taxes. I don’t gamble, either, but if I did I would wager all interest would immediately go out of the question. All this racino-casino talk is about grabbing more dollars for Big Government, and we would be fools to give these wastrels any more than they already flush down the rathole.

That, or the proviso that every penny gotten from the racino (after the almighty stadium is paid for) is given to the taxpayers in the form of annual rebates.

  3. Kermit Says:

I’ll wager Mitch gets some mileage out of this topic in the coming year. And I don’t gamble.

  4. The Big Stink Says:

When you have a problem, build a casino. A casino can feed a starving child. Or, it can build a stadium where $200 tickets are de rigeur. It can make schools stronger and children more amenable to learning. Done right, there will be no political influences. And, if gambling destroys some lives along the way, well, that’s the price of progress.

A racino and a brothel. It can be “for the children.” Might as well go big if we’re going to go at all.

  11. Terry Says:

What a great slogan, Nerdbert! “Brothels for the Children”. I tells ya, we’ll make a million bucks with this!
