For all of the talk about the GOP’s debt, Tom Scheck at MPR notes that the DFL is also the red:
There has been a lot of attention given to the finances of the Republican Party. It should be noted, however, that the DFL Party is also facing a debt.
DFL Party Chair Ken Martin said the party has a debt of roughly $210 thousand heading into 2012. Martin said the party had a debt of $750 thousand at the start of 2011.
Not huge news – this blog reported on the $750K debt years ago.
The funny part is reading the comments in the MPR piece. You get the impression that a lot of DFLers are shocked that the press would bother with the DFL. Further proof, I think, that Democrats expect the media to be on their side, when push comes to shove.
It’s part of the reason Twin Cities DFLers seem to be unable to meet conservatives in a ratoinal debate, ever; their entire worldview is formed by schools, colleges and a media that barely recognizes alternatives to the left exist.
Yes, but everyone expects the DFL to be profligate wasters of resources. It’s what they do.
You say that Democrats expect the media to be on their side……..with all going on in Wisconsin lately, I occasionally read the Milwaukee and Madison newspapers online editions. The Wisconsin State Journal is especially liberal, which makes sense as that is their market. But occasionally they will run a balanced story or editorial, or one that calls out a union or Democrat on something.
Oh, the comments that come out. Calling the paper a right wing Republican mouth piece and how they are going to cancel their subscription. The left can’t handle one occasional story that is not complementry to the left. They expect 100% of the stories and columns to be from their point of view. They are not happy with 95%.
Somewhat related… I was listening this morning to an NPR piece on the corruption trial of Cuyahoga County (OH) Commissioner Jimmy Dimora. No where in the piece was it mentioned that Jimmy ‘D’ is/was a Democrat. Nor was it mentioned that the number of other office holders and staffers who have been previously convicted in the related investigation are/were Democrats. Even the Plain Dealer story that is covering the trial (in my skimming of the article) doesn’t mention that Dimora is/was a Democrat. Maybe if he was charged with having an inappropriate relationship with someone else’s Ben Franklin’s, it might poke a hole in the bubble boy world of the PTR media.
