Load With Grapeshot!

By Mitch Berg

The 3rd CD GOP unanimously endorsed Erik Paulson to run against DFL-endorsed liberal Ashwin Madia on Saturday.

This is great; while the media will do their best to portray Madia as a moderate, the fact is that he has had to run far to the left to outflank Terry “Don’t Call Me Karla” Bonoff, leaving the unopposed Paulsen plenty of room in the middle.

The mission for conservatives this next few months is to counter the leftymedia’s attempts to portray Madia as anything but a machine liberal – and to be watching for, and ready to repulse, the inevitable smear attack against Paulson in the Strib (a biennial tradition for the Minneapolis paper).

Give ’em hell, Erik!

In reading Lori Sturdevant’s column, I thought the DFL candidate’s full name was Former Republican voter Ashwin Madia.

Cause he is. A FAR closer match to Ramstad than Paulson.

“the fact is that he has had to run far to the left to outflank Terry “Don’t Call Me Karla” Bonoff,”

Actually, he didn’t budge an inch. He held his grounds, specifically on the War on Terror which I would argue he is probably to the Right of Paulson on. It could have cost him the endorsment, byt he is very principled which will make him and excellent Congressman. He is adamantly opposed to a full scale withdrawal. He supports, like most Republicans at this point, a responsible draw down.

It was unusual in their endorsement fight to have both candidates staking their claim to the middle and proclaiming the electability mantle. It wasn’t the typical running to the fringe you see in an inner party contest. But you would know that if you actually followed the process rather than relying on hearsay.

“leaving the unopposed Paulsen plenty of room in the middle.”

Paulson will try to play to the middle, but he has one thing Madia doesn’t have, a voting record. Once the electorate is introduced to the toe the line, far right wing voting record of Paulson, they will make the sensible choice.

Bonoff was the machine liberal, and the machine failed her. There is a lot of internal healing that still needs to take place for the Dems to win this seat, that is where the breech is for Paulson. I think Paulson is the favorite here. He won’t pull in Ramstad numbers, but with his support he should retain this seat.

It is unlike you to just say things that are demonstrably false. Has it really gotten to the point you just crib off the morning E-Mails you get. I look back to the days when you fact checked your own. This screed is wrought with inaccuracies.

Does anyone know how the vote on the platform went? I ask because there is a section on health care reform that I proposed be added to the standing platform and couldn’t make the convention due to a prior commitment.
