The Flea Party’s Latest Triumph Of Persuasive Rhetoric

Flea Partiers in Boston spit on, curse, throw bottle at Coast Guardswoman:.

The Coast Guard in Boston confirmed that a woman in uniform was harassed and spat upon by Occupy Boston protesters.

The woman was walking to the train and said protesters spit on her twice, called her foul names and even threw a water bottle at her.

Just like the grandparents in the seventies.

Or maybe it was their parents.

Heck, maybe it’s them.

  1. Say wasn’t it the lefties who cited the Tea Party as those who incited violence and used hateful rhetoric?

Huh. Whatta ya know, it’s yet another example of Berg’s Seventh Law of Liberal Projection – “When a Liberal issues a group defamation or assault on conservatives’ ethics, character or respect for liberty, they are at best projecting, and at worst drawing attention away from their own misdeeds.

    Irrefutable.

  2. “Now, the Coast Guard is warning all staff working on Atlantic Avenue to avoid those protesters while in uniform.”

So members of our armed forced have no-go areas in America?

  3. Andrew, there’s plenty of coasties that I wouldn’t mess with. But I think it’s hilarious they picked a *woman* in uniform to attack.

Part of me hopes some of our male service members take up the challenge, although I suspect they’re more grown up than that.

  4. I agree with Mitch. No self respecting, dedicated Marine would desecrate their uniform by beating the crap out of US citizen, no matter how much they had it coming! On the other hand, if they are attacked by any of these miscreants, I believe that they are allowed to defend themselves.

  5. Gee, that sounds a lot like the allegations that were made about tea partiers spitting on black members of Congress.

Oh, look – your source is from a Faux News source; they are, as a group, notoriously partisan and factually inaccurate. And we also have the possiblity that this was one of the right wing blogosphere that likes to get into staging dirty trick-style disruptions: http://penigma.blogspot.com/2011/10/is-right-trying-to-use-dirty-tricks-to.html

So, Mitch – got any better support for this allegatoin? Because this one is poor.

The official position of the occupy movement is courtesy and non-violence. Certainly you see more of that in the signage they are carrying/waving/etc.

Can there be an exception, someone who behaves contrary to what the Occupy movement espouses? Certainly. But to the extent they do so, they are inconsistent with that group of people… if they really DO belong to that bunch of people at all.

And unlike the tea party, they definitely seem to be growing, and to include a wider range of the U.S. demographic. Outside of the right wing blogosphere, the tea party is only increasing in disapproval numbers, not in members. Unlike the OWS group: http://penigma.blogspot.com/2011/10/public-opinion-thumbs-up-for-occupy_14.html

  6. I did a brief survey of the sites that promoted this story. It reminds me of that fake fuss over the snow plow slowdown that didn’t happen in New York City.

What I found appears to contradict your version. First of all, I didn’t find any other news stations in or around Boston that corroborate any of this, including the claims that the Coast Guard confirmed any such event. I found a couple of reports that claim that there were no witnesses to any such event happening, and a few more that indicate that prior to this alleged event, there had been multiple reports that members of the Coast Guard had been harassing Occupy Boston protesters, and that there had been similar problems with harassment in the past – not just with Occupy Boston. I haven’t found enough information to confirm how much of a problem with harassment, or general friction, has occurred in the past – but then I haven’t multi-sourced it to my satisfaction. But I definitely didn’t find anything that confirms this story outside of the right wing media/ blogosphere, including the local press or media other than this Fox News outlet.

And given past stories that turned out to be bogus, is not enough to make this believable. It IS consistent with right wing smear tactics however.

I’ll keep looking, but this has all the earmarks of another right wing hoax.

  7. Oh good Lord. I just can’t fathom what a vacuum must exist between the ears of Dog Gone. To be that oblivious must be either comfortable or somehow satisfying . Keep doing what you’re doing. It makes the reality-based community not have to work as hard as necessary.

  8. “Gee, that sounds a lot like the allegations that were made about tea partiers spitting on black members of Congress.”

That you plugged without reservation, and that turned out to be baked wind?

    We’ll see.

  9. “And unlike the tea party, they definitely seem to be growing, and to include a wider range of the U.S. demographic.”

Um, yeah, get back to us when they’ve swung an entire national election
