Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Media?

Over at the MinMon, Andy Birkey writes:

Have Michele Bachmann’s media gaffes and extreme conservative views driven her to speak mainly to conservative and Christian-right news outlets?

Leave aside that in the MNMon’s world, all conservative views would seem, judging by their copy, to be “extreme”.  Never mind.

Birkey’s article introduced an interesting question.

More on Monday.

  1. I see one of the usual suspects left this in a comment over there.

…and the Vets for Freedom, a right-wing bunch of war-mongers

    They’re a lovely bunch, ain’t they.

With a crowd like that obessing and stalking her every move, I don’t blame her if she’s a little reticent about holding tons of public events.

And the big media around here didn’t exactly prove in the last election it’s strictly neutral when it comes to her.

  2. Has Eva started working at MinnMon yet? They’ve devolved to her level — not that anyone is surprised with the election coming closer.

  3. What is a “Christian-right news outlet”. I’m, a right wing Christian. I’d love to know what news outlets we have.

  4. Leave aside that in the MNMon’s world, all conservative views would seem, judging by their copy, to be “extreme”. Never mind.”

Can’t speak for MNMon – maybe so – but for the rest of us who aren’t conservatives, your statement simply isn’t true.

If you want to have a government that PAYS for it’s programs – what conservatives USED to stand for – then that’s not extremism. Mr. Bush said once that he said during the campaign (in 2000) that the only way he’d run a debt is if one of three situations occurred, national emergency, war, or recession. He then said “I hit the trifecta” blaming Gore and Clinton for the burst of the dot.com bubble and the end of Y2K.

Well, of course, he didn’t say that during the campaign, GORE did, so yet another lie from the lips of George. And now of course, we face a recession that makes 2001 look like a gift from heaven. Bush freely spends and spends and spends, and mostly, you righties hold him to little account – making CLAIMS of wanting balanced budgets, but refusing to stop funding your own pork programs. You, equally, make claims of integrity, personal responsibility, and honesty in Government, yet openly embrace the pure partisanship of Rove, Goodling, and Gonzalez. You personally engage in insult barrage after barrage, claiming your conduct isn’t really YOUR fault, you were pushed to it.

So, while we (I) feel conservatism has some good ideals, it’s the delivery that is inconsistent, and extreme. While MNMON may not embrace the ideals, any accusations they may make about the implementation – are dead on.

Chuck – fyi – there are half a dozen ‘Christian’ radio stations in and around the Twin Cities – do you need someone to give you the call letters?

Overall, Bachman has shown herself to be just as strident, daffy and clueless as she appeared to be during the campaign. It’s a testimony to how extreme conservativism has become that you’d embrace someone who refutes science, claims the Bible is the inerrant word of god, embraces Grace while (vicariously) pointing a gun cavalleirly at civilians telling them that peace is at hand if they’ll only shut up and do as they’re told.

  5. I’m not sure if peevish knows what conservatism is or was. *shrug*

And the pure partisanship claims? *pffft* Your house is built on sand, peevish.
