In Need Of ‘Splainin’

I have a question for the media types in the audience.

But first, an homage to the best wife of the day, Yesterday edition:  Wendi Murdoch, who clocked dipsh*t Brit “comedian” Robert “Glittery Pony” Erickson “Jonnie Marbles” after his asinine shaving-cream pie attack on Rupert Murdoch:

Punch happens at about the :34 mark.

Kudos.

Now – let’s be clear on the fact that Britiish tabloid-style “journalism” is unacceptable. Of course, nobody’s come up with any evidence that any of Murdoch’s American properties have done any of the same kind of hacking – indeed, due to technical and procedural differences in the way British and US telcos handle cell phone security, it’d be more difficult, albeit not impossible, to hack into American cell phones.

But let’s talk ideology.

When someone points to, say, a very liberal person, family or group owning or publishing a newspaper – think the Sulzbergers at the NYTimes, or Joel Kramer at the Strib – newsies always say “No! No no no! There is a rigid dividing line between the newsroom and the business!”

But with Murdoch – let me try to keep this straight – the front office has intimate control over everything going on in the newsroom?

Just curious.

  1. You’ll get no rational explaination because these are not rational people. As was noted elsewhere, this coverage is battlespace preparation for the 2012 election and nothing more.
PS – If you haven’t already seen it, you have to read Mickey Kaus’ take down of Carl Bernstein on Bernsteins criticism of NewsCorp being a Nixonian enterpirse that crossed ethical and legal lines and violated journalistic standards in this phone hacking scandal. Kaus points out Bernsteins admission in “All the President’s Men” that he used illegally obtained phone records in the Watergate probe. The difference between the News of the World cell phone hacking and Bernsteins phone records stealing is that WashPo management & ownership was well aware of the illegal activity Bernstein was undertaking and did nothing/encouraged it to continue.

  2. These emotionally stunted children can’t actively hate the evil Bush anymore, so Murdoch makes a good substitute.
    FOX NEWS!!! AAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!

  3. My question is……should the fact that CBS News used fake air guard docs in a plan to take down President Bush meant that WCCO should close down? That’s the stretch the Fox News haters are using.

  4. Wouldn’t suprise me to hear in the near future that Marbles has gone missing without a trace.
