Payback Could Be A Beeyatch

First Ringer on the possible boomerang effect on the DFL’s witchhunt of Carol Molnau:

With Pawlenty’s peripheral vision directed slightly south of the Capitol towards the Xcel Center, site of the Republican National Convention, the DFL might not be free of Molnau should they fire her.  A Governor Carol Molnau, post November, might be more than happy to exact a little legislative revenge, providing for an even more contentious atmosphere in St. Paul.  But should the DFL stay the execution, it will be less because of any potential repercussions and more likely out of hopes in hanging Molnau as an albatross around Pawlenty’s neck.  The tactic hasn’t worked so far.

  1. Very slim, and getting slimmer, what with McCain needing to shore up his support in the 2A community, and Pawlenty having gone from an asset in that to a drag. (Mea — among many others — culpa; I endorsed TPaw based on both his record and specific promises on 2A issues. He broke his promises, and that’s why there are all those resolutions coming out of the caucuses. )

Beyond that — and more on that another time, another place — a VP nominee should be able to have some favorite son possibilities to flip a flippable or nail down some electoral votes. TPaw doesn’t have that.

  2. Yep, I’d agree that T-Paw’s chances of being the Veep are small. Remember, though, that Republican presidents are often fond of appointing governors to Cabinet-level positions. McCain could give Pawlenty the nod for any number of posts there: Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, etc. W brought Tommy Thompson to Washington to run HHS; if that could happen, it’s pretty easy to envision McCain doing something similar.
