Siddown, Libs. This Is Gonna Hurt.

I decided I’d try to write a song.  It’s sung to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine:”

Imagine a right-winger,
in John Lennon’s skin
?
A hard-core tax-protester,
rooting for Reagan to win…
Imagine all the moonbats
whose worldview would come unglued

John Lennon was a closet Republican, who felt a little embarrassed by his former radicalism, at the time of his death – according to the tragic Beatles star’s last personal assistant.

Imagine him and Yoko
protesting in their bed.
Their Revolution was Hayek,
rattling round his head.
Imagine all the moonbats
stepping to the ledge…

Fred Seaman worked alongside the music legend from 1979 to Lennon’s death at the end of 1980 and he reveals the star was a Ronald Reagan fan who enjoyed arguing with left-wing radicals who reminded him of his former self.

You may say I’ve got delusions,
but it’s on the Internet!
So I picture him and Thatcher…
And we haven’t heard it all yet!

In new documentary Beatles Stories, Seaman tells filmmaker Seth Swirsky Lennon wasn’t the peace-loving militant fans thought he was while he was his assistant.

He says, “John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on (Democrat) Jimmy Carter.

Imagine John and Yoko
standing proud and tall.
Standing next to Reagan,
Saying “all you need’s to tear down the wall!”
Imagine all the lefties
swallowing their nines…oh ooooooh….

“He’d met Reagan back, I think, in the 70s at some sporting event… Reagan was the guy who had ordered the National Guard, I believe, to go after the young (peace) demonstrators in Berkeley, so I think that John maybe forgot about that… He did express support for Reagan, which shocked me.

“He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he’d been when he wrote Imagine. By 1979 he looked back on that guy and was embarrassed by that guy’s naivete.”

You may say that I’m a wingnut,
But seems that John was, too.
I hope someday someone will find out
that George Harrison was one too…

  1. Thank goodness Lennon was a ‘closet’ Republican. Had he been an out and proud Democrat, the Left-o-Sphere would be rife with stories today of how a then 16-year old Sarah Palin used cosmic telepathy to put voices in the head of Mark David Chapman telling him to target and wack the Walrus.

  2. “Here’s another clue for you all: the Walrus was Paul. Look into a glass onion.”

  3. Aw, Kerm, you’re down with your Three-Six Mafia references, but John was the Walrus contrary to what he sang in “Glass Onion”…
    Here is your FACTCHECK…
    Who was the Walrus?
    1. Ostensibly Lennon is the walrus as he appears in the Magical Mystery Tour film singing the song.
    2. Lennon returned to the subject in the lyrics of two of his subsequent songs: in the 1968 Beatles song “Glass Onion” he sings “now here’s another clue for you all — the walrus was Paul”
    3. Just to confuse people a bit more, and in his 1970 solo song “God”, admitting “I was the walrus, but now I’m John.”

Ooh, I’ve just FACTCHECKed a Beatles reference. That has to be an entry in Stuff White People Like roster.

  4. We’ve seen a significant (downward) re-appraisal of David Mamet’s body of work by the bien-pensants since he came out. I expect something similar w/r/t Lennon if this story holds up and/or has any legs.

  5. I am the eggman
    They are the eggmen
    I am the walrus
    coo coo c’choo

    wink…
