The Numbers

On Friday, Minneapolis Crime Watch noted:
There have been NO murders yet in 2008. (Knock on wood). By this time last year, we had 7.
Only 11 months to go!

But crime is rampant, we are under siege.. I mean, we had fewer murders last year than in 2006 and half of what it was in 1995, but crime is rampant, and we are under seige…chicken mitchell.

Viollent crime in general was down 13 percent, yet here was Mitch in the middle of 2007 caterwalling about how Minneapolis was ‘in carnage’. Damn that R.T. Rybak and his high-fangled technology cop workforce too.
Fact of course was, Mitch was just bitching to make political hay, and at least convenienently if not purposefully is whistling past the grave of facts here to get ahead of being called out for his needless hand-wringing, phumper and whinging. I’m sure the balance of 2008 will bear out the carnage you so ably predicted in 2007, some year. Why before long, we’ll probably be right back to 1994 or 1992 for that matter.
Tell me Mitch, what’s the national poverty rate like today as compared to say, 2000?

So if I report crime in Minneapolis is bad (and, indeed, it is), I get assailed for reporting that it’s not as bad as it was fifteen years ago…
…but if I report that it’s improving, I get attacked for not talking about national poverty numbers?
Not quite sure what you’re after, here.
