The New Tone

Ozzie envirofascist calls for tattoing “deniers”:

Surely it’s time for climate-change deniers to have their opinions forcibly tattooed on their bodies.

Not necessarily on the forehead; I’m a reasonable man. Just something along their arm or across their chest so their grandchildren could say, ”Really? You were one of the ones who tried to stop the world doing something? And why exactly was that, granddad?”

But he has a conscience:

On second thoughts, maybe the tattooing along the arm is a bit Nazi-creepy.

Did I say “conscience”?  I meant “rudimentary PR savvy”.

  1. Maybe you just missed the satire?

Is it any creepier than say Swift’s proposal to eat children or make gloves out of their skin in “A Modest Proposal” where he satires the capitalist disregard of the starving Irish?

In breaking news, I see you are not posting anything on that report on the farce of snow plow drivers slowing down in New York City that you gave space to last December and January. The report is pretty clear; O’Halloran made the whole thing up; he LIED. The New York Times has coverage of it which I will be writing about later. I figure you might want to focus on something cool, given that we will be having a heat wave today and tomorrow…. oh, wait…….that was sarcasm, not satire. Want to take bets that Fox News and the other Murdoch propaganda sources gives the commission report the same coverage they gave the original claims? NO?

You’re right, Ozzie has a conscience; rather more of one than some on the right apparently.

  2. 1) The writer’s name isn’t Ozzie, it’s Richard Glover.
    2) The exercise of the conscience of a liberal always involves the spending of other people’s money.
    3) The failure of environmental doomsayers to accurately predict the future is legendary.

  3. DG,

You need to disabuse yourself of that most irritating of leftyblogger conventions: “I see you are not posting anything on…” whatever you believe to be important. I wrote four or five posts a day, between 5 and 7AM. I don’t hit every story that I want to, much less every story you want me to.

And the report – that the plow drivers did their job? What do they want a cookie? They did what they were paid to do, and paid well for at that. They’re New York union employees, so it’s not exactly “Dog licks Dog”; maybe “Dog licks Owner’s hand”.

Good for them. If you want to write about it, go ahead. Non-story.

  4. The NY snow story is still under an investigation by a grand jury. It’s become a matter of whose words are to be believed in a private conversation. The NYT story on the report does not say anything like O’Halloran”made the whole thing up”.
And Mitch, maybe you should add “absence of evidence is not evidence of absence” to your course in logic for lefty bloggers.

  5. Terry,

Good point. I didn’t bother to check up on the current status of the investigation. In the back of my mind, my axiom “if the left insists it’s true, it’ll end up false” is rattling around my head.

    I’ll look into it, probably.

  6. I’ll go you one better, Terry. All commenters should be able to adequately define the word “germane”. 1 + a = codfish gets fairly tiresome.

  7. Dog Gone, do you deny that man is causing global climate change? (Yes or No)

DG, do you believe in Man Made Global Warming? (Y or N)

  8. Don’t you guys get the humor?

I mean, Dog Gones point is that putting tattoos on people and forcing them to do things is funny, not fascist. Just like the exploding children last year.

Richard Glover gets more reasonable as the article moves on, but his faith in AGW never wavers or is even challenged. He’s a true believer, and that is exactly what makes his comments more than “a bit Nazi-creepy”.

  9. “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
    – C. S. Lewis

  10. Troy: brilliant. C.S. Lewis was very astute. People of the same apprehension as Dog Gone are the foremost purveyors of tyranny and death throughout history.

  11. DG, try reading Liberal Fascism. That liberals so frequently devolve into these kinds of policies isn’t a coincidence, it’s part of the mindset where citizens must be forced into groups and controlled.

  12. Nerdbert, liberals don’t care about the past, they only care about “the future, that radiant future, in which man, strong and beautiful, will become master of the drifting stream of his history and will direct it towards the boundless horizons of beauty, joy and happiness!”

If liberals had any inclination to examine the past they might note that the same professional, disinterested media that couldn’t find a trace of corruption in a certain low rent Chicago politician also missed the fact that the #2 democrat seeking the nomination in 2008 was carrying on an affair, had fathered a “love child”, and was not not hiding it very well.
Hell, one white wine spritzer and Reille Hunter would’ve spilled her guts.

  13. Thanks for the Lewis quote Troy, I’ve been using it for years, always bears repeating.

Satire or not Glover is not a clown, let him or his ilk try to “tatoo” me or mine, guaranteed they’ll assume room tempature in the attempt.

“People on the left instinctively believe in communal action, the role of government and the efficacy of international agencies such as the UN.”

    That’s what makes them dangerous!!!!!

  14. Terry, liberals believe in the perfectability of man. To do so you have to ignore all of human history, which is why they refuse to study it — just look at the latest Palin “gaffe.”

  15. Satire or not Glover is not a clown
And certifiably insane. That makes him a perfect Democrat candidate. Someone call Alliance for a Better Minnesota. If you can figure out who they really are.

  16. Actually, I’d go along with this proposal if they’d up the ante a bit.

If I’m wrong, humans really are causing global warming and it’s a bad thing, I’ll spend the rest of my life displaying the tattoo of ignorance as a second-class citizen.

if I’m right that humans don’t cause global warming and even if they did, it would be a good thing; then my tattoo should buy me a lifetime of I Told You So exemptions from EVERY OTHER IDIOT LIBERAL IDEA.

In college in the late 1970’s, the poli sci professor docked me points for arguing that Robert Mugabe was the worst possible thing that could happen to Zimbabwe and 30 years later, I was proven right. I ought to get a retro-active grade adjustment to “A” for my prescience. Similarly, if I’m right that AGW is a fraud, I should get credit for it.

I’d prefer cash but I’d settle for a daily “You’re absolutely right, you’ve been right along, you’re absolutely right and I was wrong” from Al Gore, Cheryl Crow, Brad Pitt and especially Dog Gone. Daily. Every day. In person.

  17. Nate, the problem with your tattoo gamble is that the left has stacked the deck so you can never prove that man-caused global warming is not occurring, but any and everything is considered yet more evidence that AGW is a proven scientific fact.
In this thread Dog Gone’s defense of Glover is juxtaposed with her acknowledgment that NYC endured a brutally cold and snowy winter of 2010-2011.
