Cop Stories

When Tony Cornish – an actual cop – introduced HF1467, the update of Minnesota’s self-defense laws, the DFL predictably trotted out one of its oldie but goodie memes; “Police Chiefs Oppose It!”

Of course, the only “police chiefs” that they ever mention are the ones from the Metro – cops who are largely political bureaucrats who serve at the pleasure of the DFL.

But when you start talking with other cops?

Indeed, as usual, the DFL’s only response to Cornish’s bill (and its Senate companion) is…:

  • Froth like Heather Martens’ risible op-ed
  • lies about the cops
  • Insulting Cornish himself

Further proof:  If the DFL says it, distrust but verify.  Then distrust some more.

  1. I have friends and relatives in law enforcement and they all think that it’s a great idea.

One relayed a story about why. He was facing off against a gang of 5 street thugs in an alley one early a.m. They were armed with knives, a pipe and a chain. One claimed that he had a gun. He had called for back up, but knew it would be a few minutes before it arrived. Two men in apartments along the alley called to the officer and told him to make his play as they had his back. They were both standing in their doorways with 12 gauge shotguns in their hands. He told them that he was OK and that they should not get involved, but they made sure that the thugs saw them, which quickly diffused the situation. Back up arrived in about 6 minutes, but that was plenty of time for the shit to have hit the fan.

He said that officially, he couldn’t accept the help of an armed citizen, but it sure made him feel good that there were people like them that were willing to support him like they did.
