Profiles In Courage

By Mitch Berg

Some Republicans have claimed that the DFL has spent the six weeks since the GOP introduced a balanced, tax-hike-free budget “loafing” and “running out the clock” (when they’re not clutching their pearls about the GOP ignoring the suddenly-“non-partisan” Minnesota Management and Budget fiscal notes).

But we know better.

The DFL has whiled away its free hours tackling the legislation that matters, dammit!:

  • Thanks to Senate Minority (I can repeat that over and over all day long! – Ed) leader Tom Bakk, moose hunters are no longer encumbered by height limits on their moose stands!  All the better to eliminate the moose scourge!
  • The state’s deficit in numbers of official mammals has been reduced from one to zero, thanks to the DFL!
  • Joe Atkins (DFL, Inver Grove Heights), who is currently Ryan Winkler’s understudy as the DFL Minority Co-Snark (along with Rep. John “Jägermeister” Lesch [1]), tackled the vital work of trying to establish a state Pipe Band.

Thank you, DFL!

Doy.  Neither party focuses exclusively on the budget, or anything else.  Both parties are sent to Saint Paul to do more than just crank out a budget – although that’s the big, dirty job.  It’s just that the DFL’s “what is the GOP doing?” meme is just, well, so stupid…

[1] No, it’s an honorific.  In the Guard, Lesch is a light infantryman – which in German is called a Jäger.   And since he’s a platoon leader, he’s a Jägermeister, a “master of Jäger“.

Why, what did you think I was saying, you monocultural clod?

Well Wisconsin is about to make the cream puff it’s state desert. I can’t believe we let them beat us in this critical issue. I also can’t believe it’s not cheesecake.

Good list, but don’t forget Barb “I’m Not Satveer Chadhaury” Goodwin, who has presented an honorific for bears as the state mammal.

I’m just glad Lesch is being districted out of 66a. We have a chance for real representation , and i hope that portion of redistricting sticks…

I thought we were already the “Gopher State”.
