Action Needed Now

The Senate GOP is trying to sandbag the Cornish “Stand Your Ground” bill.  This just in from the Gun Owners Civil Rights Alliance:

Senator Warren Limmer, chair of the Senate Judiciary and Public Safety committee, claims that his committee does not have time to hear SF1357 — the Defense of Dwelling and Person Act of 2011. Refusing to hear the bill would kill it for the year.

This is not acceptable!

Gun owners had enough of being taken for granted back in the ’80s and ’90s.  We’ve lost the taste for it.

This is one of those moments where the rubber of grassroots politics meets the road.

Please  – call:

  • Senator Limmer’s office: (651) 296-2159
  • Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch: (651) 296-5981

…and tell them both to schedule the bill for consideration THIS WEEK.

Then, please email them both:

And then call your own Senator.

This is go time for the human right of self-defense, and taking it out of the realm of bureaucrats’ discretion.

Please get on the phone ASAP.

And remember, Senators Koch and Limmer and the rest of the Senate GOP caucus; nobody in Minnesota politics has a longer memory than us bitter gun-clingers.  And I get it – it’s a busy session, and there are a lot of priorities.

We are asking  you to make the time to get this bill through.

UPDATE:  I talked with one of Sen, Koch’s assistants.   Her question; is this bill more important than all the other bills that need to be heard?

It’s right up there, yes.

  1. My biggest question is even if this passes both houses, how likely is Gov. Dayton to sign the bill? I think it runs between Slim to none, and Slim left town.

  2. how likely is Gov. Dayton to sign the bill?

He ran as a “pro-second-amendment” candidate. “I’ve got two .357s in a box at home for self defense”, he said – so he’s trying to spin himself as smarter than one of those “RKBA is about hunting” idiots.

So after that, if he vetoes the bill, it’s a huge wedge against him in 2014. 8.000 votes worth of wedge? Probably.

So whether he signs or not, we win.

If it gets through the legislature.

Yes, Mark Dayton is every bit as honest and genuine as Barack Obama.

  4. Due to the huge phone and email reaction from law-abiding Minnesotans who want the law on THEIR side, Senator Limmer and the leadership decided to find room for the bill on Friday’s agenda.

We did it, thanks to the loud voices of people like Mitch and Olegand the many who called and emailed today.

  5. Thanks for the update, Andrew!

After reading Mitch’s piece yesterday, I did as I was told 😉 both emailed and called Senators Cook, Limmer and my own Senator Geoff Michel. Being a RINO, I doubt that the latter was effective, but I told him that I would be monitoring his votes this year. We’ll see!

  6. Andrew,

    Thanks for the update!

It’s nice to know the ol’ movement still moves things!
