As the MN GOP gets ready for the push to topple Amy Klobuchar, the question is “who will go for the Senate endorsement?”
Sitting here at the CD4 convention at Jimmy’s in Vadnais Heights, we are getting our answer.
That’s right, Minnesota. Harold Shudlick is running again!

The Harold Shudlick?

“As the MN GOP gets ready for the push to topple Amy Klobuchar . . .”
Cow-tipping, while it may provide merriment to the simple oafs of the country-side, should be looked down upon by all those who would like to think of themselves as gentry.

Who is Harold Shudlick?

“Who is Harold Shudlick?”
That was the first line of Ayn Rand’s rejected book, “Sisyphus Crushed”

I want to put my preference forward at this point. Bachmann vs Klobuchar. It is the best possible matchup I can see, and it is doable. Please, let us encourage this.
March 27th, 2011 at 6:34 am
It seems more GOP candidates are interested in an RNC committee position than this Senate seat.
March 27th, 2011 at 7:07 am
Yes, Harold showed up at CD5 as well. He is a lovely man, passionate about his beliefs, not a senatorial candidate.
Pat Anderson is who should be encouraged to run for the senate post. In fact a small reason to support Janet Beihoffer is so Pat is mor available to run for Senate.

I am going to stand here and shout “Michelle Bachmann for US Senate” until everyone agrees with me. Seriously. Don’t make me use italics. It could get ugly.
March 27th, 2011 at 3:39 pm
Kermit, she is WAYYYY too conservative for this state, statewide. Amy would crush her as bad as she crushed Kennedy.
March 27th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
Ben, so was Rod Grams, and he beat Ann Wynia like an old dog. Never underestimate the fickleness of Minnesota voters.
March 27th, 2011 at 10:45 pm
Kermit, I attribute that to the quality candidate that Wynia was, as much as to the fickleness of MN voters. A-Klo’s also got the advantage of some name recognition with the 50+ crowd also.

I’d agree with Bill C and Ben. Bachmann could win many parts of the state, but she’d lose by !!ELEVEN!TY!! percent in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which would be an insurmountable problem.
Klobuchar is about as empty as suit as there is, but she has a pleasant manner and she’d just have to smile and give a few rueful “tsk tsk” responses to Bachmann and it would be over.
I think Klobuchar can be beaten, but it’s going to take someone willing to take her down a peg or two and attack the substance (or lack thereof) of her record, someone who’s willing to explain that while being against faulty pool drains and military rape is great, drafting meaningless legislation about such issues and holding self-congratulatory press conferences about said legislation is not the work of a United States Senator. She’ll get complete protection from the MSM.

I like Bachmann as my Congress Critter, but, she almost certainly would get trounced in a run for Senate.
Kline is the Republican who would win hands down.
March 28th, 2011 at 6:25 am
jpmn;
I’m pretty much of that same opinion about John Kline. He’s what I would call a quiet dynamo.
George Will seems to have torpedoed Bachmann a couple of weeks ago by stating that she wasn’t a serious presidential contender. I think that she would make a great Senator, but don’t know if she’s ready to be the POTUS.
March 28th, 2011 at 8:14 am
JP, Kline would be a wonderful US Senator, and I would gladly support him.
Mr. D, Amy is a nice woman, but she should be running a church women’s auxiliary.

I don’t think she’s nice at all, Kermit. In fact, I think she’s profoundly cynical.
March 28th, 2011 at 8:36 am
I’d love to see Kline run for Senate……
March 28th, 2011 at 8:44 am
Well Amy doesn’t work at Media Matters for America. She is a nice person, I went to high school with her. Her dad Jim was much like Rudy Boschwitz (whose kids I also went to school with), in that they could have sent their kids to private school, but they chose public high school.
I never assume cynicism in a person until I see evidence of it. Like the creep that inhabits 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. He is the most cynical POS I have ever seen (apart from myself, of course).
March 28th, 2011 at 8:45 am
Bubba, ditto.
March 28th, 2011 at 8:56 am
I’d like to see Kline run for Senate, and Brod run to replace him (I think she lives in the 2nd CD…)

I never thought that Bachmann was running for POTUS, I just assumed it was another case of the MSM trying to create the news by reporting speculation rather than, you know, things that are actually happening in the world.
That being said, while I think she’s right on most of the issues and does a better job representing her district than Amy Klobuchar does representing the State, I think she would have a really uphill battle in a Statewide race particularly in a presidential year with Obama almost certain to carry Minnesota handily.

Laura Brod. Minnesota’s version of Lincoln Chaffey. A “convenience” conservative, where its just dandy to mask yourself in conservativism until you find a way to screw others at the cost of your conservative soul. See: Twins Stadium deal.

Guess your standard of evidence is different than mine on this issue, Kermit. I’d say the pool drain thing and her most recent photo opportunity are pretty cynical. We can agree to disagree on this one.
Kline would be a good opponent for Klobuchar, but I don’t see it happening. He’s got a pretty good gig right now.
March 29th, 2011 at 11:54 am
I’m with Kermit; Michelle My Belle vs. Androgynous Amy.
March 29th, 2011 at 6:10 pm
Mitch : She is and he won’t.
