Lettuce Spray

By Mitch Berg

Conservative talk show featuring the cream of the local blogging crop – including bloggers that’ve brought down two governments (Jean Chretien and Dan Rather) not only goes on the air, but lasts nearly four years (and counting, knock wood), kicks ratings ass, and draws 20,000 podcast downloads a week?

The Strib’s never heard of us.

Put a one-hour show promoting atheism on Sunday mornings on an also-ran “liberal” station that’s been circling the drain since it went on the air?

The Strib is right there.

Sorta like the time the Today show did a five minute interview (“The left’s answer to Rush Limbaugh!”) with Fast Eddie Schultz, when he had a “network” of six stations, five of them in markets like Lisbon, North Dakota.

(“Hahahahaha!  Mitch is jealous!”  No, not a bit.  The Northern Alliance rips on the Strib pretty consistently, and indeed has held an “Unsubscribe-athon”; it’s fair to say our audience isn’t reading it very much.  They really don’t matter.  Just wondering about their news judgement, given the rather lopsided impacts of the various shows involved.  Just saying).

    Pfft.

As an avid reader of Ken Avidor, I know for a fact the NARN is nothing but a complete failure, kept afloat only through the lying machinations of that evil spin-monger and propagandist, Mitch Berg.

Oh, and also, the Minnesota Organization of Blogs is a nefarious cabal of wrong-doers who dabble in organized crime. Ken Avidor told me so, on one of his 8,000 different Blogger sites.

From the article it looks like the Minnesota Atheists are trying to turn atheism from a negative (non-belief) to a positive (belief in the positive attributes & potential of Man). You don’t have to believe Man has any good qualities at all to disbelieve in God. The ‘Minnesota Atheists’ should change their name to ‘Minnesota Humanists’ & admit they are a religion that places their faith in a future that doesn’t exist and a Mankind that has never existed.

So the Atheists will have to PAY to have nobody listen to their tripe? AirheadAmerica, on a Sunday morning, must get a whoppin’ .000001 share in the market. But I’m sure the 15 people that listen to ErrAmerika will enjoy listening to the Godless pukes.

To me, the only reason atheists organize is to bash religions that believe in a God…..primarily Christians.

Yes, recall all of the free positive publicity Air America received at their startup.

  5. Chuck Says:

And I should add……I used to tune into Air America just for kicks, see what the other side has to say. One evening, the Catholic bashing was so over the top, that it was the last time I could let that filth on my radio. So I guess the atheists will be right on home there.

I think we could have a hell of a lot of fun calling in on this show. 🙂

The article lists Camp Quest of Minnesota s one of the radio program’s sponsors. I went to their website & found this Statement of Principles:

    A Statement of Principles

    * We are committed to the application of reason and science to the understanding of the universe and to the solving of human problems.
    * We deplore efforts to denigrate human intelligence, to seek to explain the world in supernatural terms, and to look outside nature for salvation.
    * We believe that scientific discovery and technology can contribute to the betterment of human life.
    * We believe in an open and pluralistic society and that democracy is the best guarantee of protecting human rights from authoritarian elites and repressive majorities.
    * We are committed to the principle of the separation of church and state.
    * We cultivate the arts of negotiation and compromise as a means of resolving differences and achieving mutual understanding.
    * We are concerned with securing justice and fairness in society and with eliminating discrimination and intolerance.
    * We believe in supporting the disadvantaged and the handicapped so that they will be able to help themselves.
    * We attempt to transcend divisive parochial loyalties based on race, religion, gender, nationality, creed, class, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, and strive to work together for the common good of humanity.
    * We want to protect and enhance the earth, to preserve it for future generations, and to avoid inflicting needless suffering on other species.
    * We believe in enjoying life here and now and in developing our creative talents to their fullest.
    * We believe in the cultivation of moral excellence.
    * We respect the right to privacy. Mature adults should be allowed to fulfill their aspirations, to express their sexual preferences, to exercise reproductive freedom, to have access to comprehensive and informed health-care, and to die with dignity.
    * We believe in the common moral decencies: altruism, integrity, honesty, truthfulness, responsibility. Humanist ethics is amenable to critical, rational guidance. There are normative standards that we discover together. Moral principles are tested by their consequences.
    * We are deeply concerned with the moral education of our children. We want to nourish reason and compassion.
    * We are engaged by the arts no less than by the sciences.
    * We are citizens of the universe and are excited by discoveries still to be made in the cosmos.
    * We are skeptical of untested claims to knowledge, and we are open to novel ideas and seek new departures in our thinking.
    * We affirm humanism as a realistic alternative to theologies of despair and ideologies of violence and as a source of rich personal significance and genuine satisfaction in the service to others.
    * We believe in optimism rather than pessimism, hope rather than despair, learning in the place of dogma, truth instead of ignorance, joy rather than guilt or sin, tolerance in the place of fear, love instead of hatred, compassion over selfishness, beauty instead of ugliness, and reason rather than blind faith or irrationality.
    * We believe in the fullest realization of the best and noblest that we are capable of as human beings.

You could be a perfect atheist and disagree with each & all of these ‘principles’.
