More Of That Civility

By Mitch Berg

The left is of two minds about “civility” and “vitriol”

On the one hand, they say, perceived incivility and “vitriol” (the most overused word of 2011 so far) from the right aids and abets mass-murder.

On the other hand, the same from the left is a Constitutional right:

The proof?  The Leftwing has gone berserk over the chorus of condemnation of a play in Missoula, Montana that called for the beheading of Sarah Palin.  Rather than condemn the line in the play advocating for such barbarism, the Left instead has chosen to nitpick about the details of whether or not the play was intended for children, who produced it, or whether or not it was intended as a ‘joke.’

No one from the Leftwing, however, condemned the play or the producer for taking one of the great works of Gilbert and Sullivan and adding in at the last minute a line that called for Sarah Palin to be beheaded.  In fact, some of the reaction of the Left not only applauded the line but outright called for ALL conservatives to be beheaded.

It gets depressing, after a while, covering this sort of thing.

Here is a sample of comments made on yesterday’s article about the play:

“Since the Conservatives don’t understand civility, maybe we should chop all their heads off.”

“This is NOT a “children’s play.” Please get your facts straight before publishing information that could have serious effects on this non-profit organization.  This was an operetta produced by MCT Community Theatre, which is the community theatre arm of Missoula Children’s Theatre. This was not a production that was intended specifically for children. There were a small number of children in the cast, but there are children who chose, as artists, to perform in many productions outside of children’s theatre.  Had this been a children’s theatre production, this would have been unquestionably inappropriate. This was NOT, however, a “children’s play”!”

Please note, however, children were in the cast and children were in the audience.  What, then, is the point?  Any nonprofit that would allow such a thing to be stated, whether it is ‘a children’s play’ or not, should be questioned as to their value to the community.

Time for the left to get the point – walk what you talk.

(And my reference to “the point” is not a subtle call for the left to be stabbed or bayoneted).

Why are people of The Left are so awful? KQ’s Morning Show host (Tom Bernard) commented that after the Strib did an article yesterday regarding author Vince Flynn having advanced prostate cancer, comments were left on the site in effect claiming Flynn deserved cancer and there were hopes for his speedy death due to his political views. The host, apparently a close friend of Flynn’s, said he posted a comment with a “let’s get together, and see if you say that to my face” which he claimed was scrubbed by the Strib’s site admin. I looked at the site this morning and apparently all of the Lefty nastiness has been scrubbed – but there were comments criticizing the nastiness and praising Tom Bernards comment so I can only guess that the nasty comments were made and responded to.
I loved what OpinionJournal’s James Taranto said to Lefty columnist Richard Cohen recently when they were on a TV panel together, and Cohen blurted out that the panel “didn’t have time to document the stupidity of Sarah Palin”. Taranto deadpanned, “keep it classy, Richard, keep it classy”. I don’t think those on the Left have any class in them.

time to document the stupidity of Sarah Palin
Or any substantive example to point at. Fiction takes a lot of time and energy. And imagination. Leftists, I have observed, have precious little imagination.

Sorry to hear about Flynn. We own most of his books, and he is one of my favorite authors. He filled the gap left by Tom Clancy’s retirement.

It gets depressing, after a while, covering this sort of thing.
And exhausting, but don’t let them wear you down, Berg. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. We both have children that we’d like to pass a free country off to.

It takes genius, genius I tell you, to imagine that Panama Canal is in Egypt! Who knew!

There is a popular play right now in Madison Wisconsin. The premise? “Progressive” college students murder “right wingers” (meaning Republicans). The first victim? An Iraq War vet who is…..ready…..a Nazi. Yes, that is the world the left lives in. Our service veterans are really Nazis, and it is good to murder Republicans.

Hugh Hewitt has done some great interviews with Flynn. He went to high school at St Thomas.

Yes it’s called “The Last Supper” based on the movie of the same name. If the ending is anything like the film, I suspect that you might enjoy it more than any progressive members of the audience who go to see it without realizing that it’s actually intended to force them to take a good hard look in the mirror.

  7. Kermit Says:

Um, Chuck. St. Thomas is a college, not a high school.

  8. Chuck Says:

Kermit….St Thomas is an all-boys high Catholic high school in Mendota Heights.

No, Kermie’s right. I went to St. John’s University and as all good Johnnies know – St. Thomas University is nothing but an expensive high school.
