Noted In Passing

There’s nothing that leftybloggers like more than stories where a conservative Christian – usually white and male – freaks out and does something really off-color or awful.    You’ve seen it; fromar Larry Craig through Tom Hackbarth, they gambol and prance around such stories like a bunch of happy little pixies.  You know what I’m talking about.

Hold that thought.

I’m not one to make light of other peoples’ misfortunes.  Seriously.

I read this story about the Apple Valley woman who, apparently distraught over her son’s death, lit her house on fire with her husband in it, hammered a screwdriver into her chest, and then led police on a high speed chase.

Police got a call about 9:15 a.m. saying that Rhonda Arkley, 49, had poured gasoline inside her house at 4754 142nd St. in Apple Valley and was threatening to kill herself.

When officers arrived at the home, flames were coming out of the rear of the house. Arkley, locked in her car outside of the house, was stabbing herself in the chest with a screwdriver, police said.

Her husband was in the house.  He escaped, apparently with some burns.

When she saw the officers, Arkley drove away, triggering a chase that ended in neighboring Eagan, police said.

Rosemount resident Jim Corrigan was in his car trying to make a left-hand turn from Pilot Knob Road to Cliff Road when a squad car “came whipping down Cliff and backed up onto the sidewalk at the traffic lights.”

Corrigan said the officer pulled a set of road spikes out of his trunk and “waited, talking on his radio.”

“I could see in my rear-view mirror there was this car coming really fast,” Corrigan said.

The car, which he said was a station wagon, “went right over (the spikes) like it was nothing.”

According to police, as officers approached Arkley’s stopped car, she was using a hammer to pound a screwdriver into her chest.

In all seriousness, sounds like the woman needs some help, not to mention any prayers, karmic imvocations or best wishes  you can peel off for her.

Although that last bit may seem ironic.

This bit here almost escaped me:

Criminal records show Arkley served a year of probation after a fifth-degree domestic assault conviction in 2005…Arkley was a DFL candidate for state Senate District 37 in 2002. At the time, she called herself very progressive and said she was active in environmental and atheist organizations.

If she had been a conservative Christian (male!) active in business and faith organizations, she’d have not only been story number one with a couple dozen local leftyblog hamsters this morning, the storyt would wind up as an episode of Law and Order.

Seems to be a classic case of self loathing. I believe it’s a common malady amoung progressives, enviro-weenies, and the faithless.

She’s going to need a lot of help for a very long time. I do feel sympathy for her over the loss of her son.

  2. All of my sources say that Arkley hates men. Now her son is dead and husband burned…coincidence? Maybe, but it’s chilling just the same.

Why does the DFL support gender hatred?

  3. Hammering a screwdriver into her chest. Seems like an average DFL candidate. By the end of 2011 all sharp objects will have been removed from the Governor’s mansion.

  4. Surprised that our local DFL/Media (PTR) didn’t play the “Name! That! Party!” game with Ms. Arkley. They certainly haven’t hesitated naming Tom Hackbarth’s party, even though he did nothing illegal (odd maybe – but then he’s my Rep and he’s… odd).

  5. Hammering a screwdriver into her chest. Seems like an average DFL candidate.

You’re thinking about the ice-pick lobotomy they get, Kerm. Different thing all together.

  6. “You’re thinking about the ice-pick lobotomy they get, Kerm.”

    aka “The Trotsky”

  7. I caucused with the DFL when I was young. After I quit smoking dope things became more clear.

  8. I’m not one to make light of other peoples’ misfortunes. Seriously.

Nah, you just tee it up and let Kermit and Swiftee do the dirty work. That way you get to keep your hands clean. Nice work, Mao couldn’t have done better.

  9. Tim, when it comes to “wet work” and lefties, I don’t need anyone to tee it up for me.

You don’t have to take my word for it, just ask anyone.

  10. Right, Tim. Every blogger is 100% responsible for every comment on his or her blog and backs up the thoughts and feelings behind that comment 100%.
They grow ’em pretty dumb in St. Paul these days.

  11. Wow, I do “dirty work”? And I get billing over Swiftee? I am doubly honored. Any time you want to have a serious chat Tim, just let me know.
I doubt you have the stones.

So, Swiftee, are these the same sources that tell you that busloads of high school kids in Cincinnati are being bribed with free ice cream to vote on democratic candidate only ballots?

This information is tragic, but it says nothing about gender bias by anyone; not this woman, not a political party.

Kermit, I thought of you during the recount process. There was an Emmer recount observer, sitting at one of the tables, where I was briefly assigned to observe the counting of a pile of Dayton ballots, to be sure the numbers were correct. I don’t know his real name; but he sat there with his arms crosed, glaring at the auditor staff person and at me, as we counted. I made some passing comment, after requesting a pile be recounted (a rare occurrence) before it was added to the larger counted stack – and I asked him if he minded. After the recounted pile was ready, I made some passing comments, I don’t remember now what, as the auditor staff person reached for another bunch to count. Whatever it was I said, this guy – whom I mentally referred to as ‘Crabby Kermit’ – cracked up laughing out loud. It actually startled me. I thought of him by that name as distinct from some of the other Emmer recounters, because he was initially responsible for a bunch of frivolous ballot challenges that were subsequently withdrawn, and because he was so eager to believe the worst of those of us who were there for Dayton.

Now, over time, he did come to recognize that we were acting in good faith, and that we were being meticulous — and seeking, as much as possible consensus on serious ballot challenges, and not making frivolous ballot challenges of our own.

Once the ice was broken, he was very pleasant. He stopped glowering at us, he stopped sitting their with his arms crossed and relaxed, and he even made pleasant conversation. We got to see his other side, what I hope is his real side, the side that most people see most of the time.

That is how I think of you Kermit; too ready to believe utter garbage so long as it feeds your negative opinion of those who don’t share you point of view. But I keep believing there is a very very nice person in there, and hoping to break that ice.

No. But each of us is responsible for the tone, and for the kind of comments we routinely solicit, and for either supporting or criticizing their content.

  14. Crabby Kermit. Nice. I’m actually humble and lovable. I just get a tad irritated when my democracy is obviously perverted by leftist scumbags like Mark Ritchie.
    Sue me.

As for “utter garbage”, prove it. BreaK out the ol’ FACT CHECKING and convince me.

  15. Kermit, I think she judges the strength of her argument by the number of characters she types into the comment box. By that measure, we should have been convinced long ago. 😉

  16. Yes, I thought of Dog Gone during the recent recount process as well. If there weren’t so many dishonest lefties we wouldn’t really be bothering, would we?

  17. No. But each of us is responsible for the tone, and for the kind of comments we routinely solicit, and for either supporting or criticizing their content.

I’ve read that sentence three times and I still can’t figure it out. What kind of comments is Mitch soliciting? The kind Dog Gone makes?

  18. “But each of us is responsible for the tone, and for the kind of comments we routinely solicit, and for either supporting or criticizing their content.”

Have any of you ever read that rancid shitpile “Penigma?”

They moderate their comments. They apparently delete the ones they don’t like. And the whole blog is nothing but red herrings and strawmen and the same shit reasoning that DG and Pengima have always brought here. See how many times DG has gotten her ass handed to her here? that’s ALL THAT FUCKING BLOG IS. I try to be a reasonable guy, but Penigma is shit. Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit. it looks like shit, its reasoned like shit, shit writing, shit thinking. I sincerely regret the moments I wasted there. It would be fun to FACT CHECK them over there, but then you would have to read their shitty, shitty, shittty, shitttttttyyyy writing.

I’m sorry. It pisses me off that such a couple of SHIT thinkers can get as arrogant as they seem to want to be. It is as rancid a piece of crap as MNPublius, but worse written.

  19. Have any of you ever read that rancid shitpile “Penigma?”
Glanced at it, but have read it all before. My time is more valuable.

I sincerely regret the moments I wasted there.
It could be worse. You could have been reading Democratic Underground (shivers).

    I’m sorry.
Don’t be. Unlike Peevish Boy, you have demonstrated the willingness to have an open mind. As for “Dog Gone”, the jury is still out, but it doesn’t look promising.

  20. There’s nothing that leftybloggers like more than stories where a conservative Christian – usually white and male – freaks out and does something really off-color or awful.

I’m sorry, I think you meant “righty-bloggers” and anything where you can fatuously claim they’re “terrorists”.

But, actually, I like chocalate milk-shakes much more, for that matter, I like scratching my back more. You see, your little fantasy aside, I couldn’t give a rip about this guy, but if this helps you cover the hypocrisy we see time and again from the “do as I say, not as I do” wing of the wing-nut parade, have fun.

AK – we remove offensive remarks – that’s all, and far fewer people have been banned there, than here (heck I’ve been banned twice – both times for treating Mitch as he treated me and others).

Kermy – as much as I respect your opinion, I don’t think I’ll let it worry me too much. I’ve at least had the balls, however, to engage you on your blog. If you chose to rationally disagree, come on over, if not, well…

There is nothing right-bloggers love more than congregating together to bitch and insult non-conservatives where they have little/no risk of being held to account.

  21. ack – that second paragraph – should say “righty-bloggers” and any group from the left – you guys love to claim any group from the left is a terrorist, including ginning up stories about how terrorists shot at Eric Cantor.

  22. Terry,

I’d call “rancid shitpile” the kind of comments I see too often on this blog, and further, the kind of comments I’d call someone out for making, were the person they were made about someone I call a friend.

    Just sayin.

  23. and just to be 100% clear, DG’s reports of what actually occured (based on, say having interviewed those involved NOT being paid by MN Forward) is proving to be far closer to the truth than anything Jensen has uttered. At some point, you all will admit to it, maybe not I guess.. but when/if you are man enough to do so, you’ll owe her an apology – but I’ll not hold my breath..mmmkay?
