Get Out of the Way

"Oops. Gotta go dearie. I crapped myself."

Just what we need…

To reach the older market, wireless carriers are offering lessons in how to text, introducing phones with oversized buttons and fine-tuning their marketing strategies.

…octogenarians texting behind the wheel…how much slower could they go in the left lane with their turn signal on for the last ten miles?

  1. Website operators and mobile-phone makers spy opportunity in the demographic shift too. The blog Cell Phones For Seniors caters to people looking for simple phones and services. Samsung Electronics Co. and Pantech Co. make phones with oversized buttons and bigger screens, including the $49.99 Pantech Ease from AT&T, which has backlit keys and large fonts.

GreatCall Inc., based in San Diego, got its start four years ago with simple calling plans and cellphones under the Jitterbug brand. The carrier’s phones have preloaded text messages, including “Will arrive soon” and “Where are you?”

And, of course, “Where am I?” and “How did I get here?” 😉

We brought you here on the short bus, and we’re going to “help” you vote! Don’t go wandering off, stay with the group!

  3. What’s scary is the younger set that is frighteningly similar to my parents in their inability to do simple things with computers. I mean, basic tasks like manipulating files and folders are beyond most 20-somethings. Don’t they teach this stuff in high school now?

“What is the digital equivelent of a turn signal?”

So, after much aggravation, the old man sort of figured out how to use Skype.

He left me a message one day, and didn’t click the hang up button. So it happily recorded fifteen minutes of him muttering to himself and his dogs being a nuisance in the background.

  4. Roosh, please clarify. Is that a photo of Dog Gone or “Penigma”? Looks like a fact-checking big “O”.
