What’s The Frequency, Wes?
By Mitch Berg
According to the Minnesota Association of Defensive Firearm Instructors the number of carry permits issued in Minnesota topped 50,000 last Thursday.

Wes Skoglud – wherever you are? How’s that whole “blood in the streets” thing going for ya?

How’s the ‘dramatic’ drop in crime thing going for ya?

Who, peevish, are you quoting on the “dramatic” drop in crime? As you’ll recall, if you were paying attention, advocates of modern, commonsense, mainstream carry reform were (and are) predicting that, in the long run, when controlling for other factors, there will be a small but real drop in violent crime in Minnesota, as there has been in other states when they pass commonsense, mainstream carry reform laws.
Many factors, of course, affect violent crime; it would be rather a lot to hope if a modest increase in the number of carry permits in Minneapolis had more of a useful effect than the dramatic understaffing of the MPD has a detrimental one.

Peevish,
What JoelR said.
Nobody – least of all John Lott – has ever claimed that it was a panacaea. Merely that it is both an incrementally-helpful thing which, all else being equal, cuts violent crime.
All other things are not equal in Minneapolis.

On the other hand, it’s not an exaggeration to point out that Wes Skoglund — repeatedly and publicly — predicted that if the law passed, there’d be a wave of permit-holding window peekers.
Not even Wes has, as far as I know, claimed to see any of these permit holding window peekers; I guess they remain invisible.

itβs not an exaggeration
Indeed, Skoglund made a cottage industry of writing fanciful predication about the depravity of Minnesota’s law-abiding, trained, demonstrably un-addicted citizens.
Like Joel, I await the first tale.

“member when the anti-gun ownership rights crowd said they won’t go to the Metrodome or State Fair because of the shootouts that will occur.

I’m dismayed that peevish would confabulate so, but I’m glad it was only one sentence. π

According to the Minnesota Association of Defensive Firearm Instructors…
Thanks for the mention, but we just made the graph. The data is according to the good folks in the data management area of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
We’d like to see that number hit 100,000. Maybe then the governor would be interesting in keeping his promises to us.
How about a first annual Shot in the Dark carry class? Only the law abiding need apply. π
Drop me a line. We can set up a killer price for a good-sized group.

We should talk.
