Sagging In The Stretch

By Mitch Berg

Professor David Schultz says it’s time for the DFL to tag it and bag it as re the Tarryl Clark campaign (I’ll add emphasis):

The poll reports that the lead is unchanged from the previous survey. Since then hundreds of ads and hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars have poured into the race. Yet nothing has changed. If anything, the poll suggests opinions and voting preferences are fixed and with 5% undecided, there is little in terms of swing votes to move.

The race is over. About a week ago I blogged about how Democrats are wasting money on this race and need to stop pouring money into it and shift it to the Third Congressional District (Jim Meffert) or other races across the country.

I’m gonna suggest that Meffert is not going much further, either.  I’m predicting Paulson will win by at least the same margin Bachmann does.  Granted, I’m less connected to the Third District than the Six, but I’m comfortable in saying Meffert shouldn’t start measuring drapes anytime soon, either.

Being a resident in the 3rd I have seen a surprising amount of Meffert signs in my area. That being said if Madia can only get 41% of the vote after spending $2.5 million odds are that the BEST Meffert could hope for would be a 60-40 defeat. I wouldn’t be surprised if Paulsen got north of 65%. Meffert is pestering him to debate but that won’t happen, outside of the 2 they have scheduled already. DFLers keep on saying this is a “moderate” district. It’s at minimum a lean GOP, this year I would guess its a solid GOP, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Emmer won the district by 7+ points.

I live in the 3CD and my impression is that Erickson is expected to win pretty comfortably and the hopes is that his victory will have coattails to help with some of the State legislative races and maybe help bring out voters for State-wide constitutional offices.

Ditto me. I live in the 3rd and I too, see a lot of Meffert signs, but lately, a couple more Paulsen signs have shown up. IMO, Meffert never had a real job and seems to be running, just to get another cushy one.

In my area of the 3rd there are a few Paulson signs but I did not know the name of his challenger. This time last cycle Madia was all over the area with signs, fliers, ads and mailers. If Paulson wins this round the next election will be like some of Ramsted opponents who only have enough money to get copies made at kinkos from poorly written notepad documents.

dave have you seen Mefferts COH numbers? they are already like that.
