Mark My Words

By Mitch Berg

I’m waiting for this story…:

Two undercover federal agents infiltrated the violent Pagans biker gang and smashed a plot to kill rival Hells Angels members with homemade grenades, authorities said Wednesday.

Nineteen Pagan members — including a 70-year-old man — and associates were rounded up in coordinated, early-morning raids in Long Island, New Jersey and Delaware. An explosive device packed with nails and 34 guns was seized.

…to be plugged as “right-wing tea party terrorism”.

    Very funny take, Mitch!

    I wouldn’t doubt that one a bit.

  2. Night Writer Says:

It all sounds very much like the “Sons of Anarchy” tv show. I think “Sons of Anarchy” is also what the old bulls in the Retreadlican Party use to describe the Tea Party.

  3. Kermit Says:

Yes, you don’t get more right-wing, tea partier than a hog ridin’, tattooed, drug peddler. No siree.

Seriously? I hadn’t heard of any of the old guard likening the TEA Party to SAMCRO but I do love the imagery.

O/T how many other posters here watch Sons of Anarchy? I recorded it and watched Tuesday night’s episode after my yoga class last night and it is simply IMO the best show on television.

THere are so many contenders for “best show on television” these days, it’s hard to even know where to start.

I’m not a TV watcher, and it’s a good thing, because I could park myself by the set for a VERY long time to catch all the really well-written, good stuff on today…

…and that’s just catching reruns of “The Office”, “Scrubs”, “The Unit”, “The Sopranos”, and first-runs of “Burn Notice”, “SOA”, and a bunch of others…

I’ve watched S.O.A. and some episodes are OK. I’ve ridden Hogs for darn near 40 yrs. and have known many 1%’s over the years. S.O.A. as a show is very much over the top, pretty much cliché . Now RUBICON is a super well written and acted show I would VERY HIGHLY recommend that can be seen on AMC channel. I would describe the show as a mystery-drama. It’s about a super secret US Intelligence Agency (more analysts than spooks), with a lot of plot twists.

I’d like to throw my 2 cents in with these offerings; House and Breaking Bad are good shows, too!

  8. Scott Hughes Says:

Oh and by the way I’d also HIGHLY recommend a different show that like S.O.A. is an FX original series, JUSTIFIED. I love this show and anxiously await the start of season 2.

Kermit, I own a Harley and I have a tattoo.

One funny story — I went down to the bike shop in Kona one day to check on some work I was having done. Next to the bike shop was a tattoo parlor owned by a cleaned-up junkie & wannabe pro-wrestler named Bobby. While I’m hanging in the parking lot I see four huge Samoans come out of Bobby’s shop, laughing and high-fiving each other, followed by Bobby himself. The Samoans leave & I chat up Bobby.
“Hey, Bobby, you giving group discounts now?”
This was kind of a joke — some locals can’t do a damned thing unless they’ve got their buddies with them, cheering them on.
“Nah, just one tat on the big guy” he says, looking disgusted. “All across his back. “Latter Day Saints””.

  10. Kermit Says:

Terry, a heart with “Mother” across is doesn’t count.

Since this thread turned into ” plug your new favourite TV series,” I would recommend Modern Family. It is just enough politically incorrect to be really funny.

I like Glee and am interested in “The Event” starting Monday on NBC. Need something to ween me off of 24 and it looks as good as any.

O/T how many other posters here watch Sons of Anarchy?

yo, me and my Dad are still on like episode 9 or 10 from season one. When the psycho stalker got his brains blown out on the bedroom floor I was won over.

  13. Ben Says:

Scott, I loved that show but only caught like 2 episodes of it. Is season 1 of Justified on DVD yet?

  14. Scott Hughes Says:

“Ben Says: I like Glee……” Please Ben say it isn’t so!!!! (just kidding/Scott’s laughing)

Ben, I didn’t see the Justified season 1 DVD available on their web site, fortunately I’ve got all the episodes recorded on my DVR in HD.

My mom doesn’t let me watch cable…too scary.

  16. DiscordianStooj Says:

I’m glad to see swiftee avoided arrest.

  17. thorleywinston Says:

I’ve only seen the first episode of “Justified” but I really enjoyed Timothy Olyphant in “Deadwood” (not as much as Ian McShane or Powers Boothe) and Walton Goggins in “The Shield” so I’m planning to go back and watch the rest. I hope it does well because FX has produced some awesome dramas.

When I said SOA was “the best show on television,” I was referring only to shows that are currently airing their first run (cancelled shows and shows on hiatus were excluded otherwise I’d have to try to compare it to Lost, BSG, The Wire, The Sopranos, etc.) but even then “Mad Men” gives it a run for its money.

  18. Ben Says:

Ok Scott fyi Glee is actually a quite nasty show, basically Desperate Housewives for high school.

  19. Night Writer Says:

Geez, I go to Canada for one day and miss the TV show thread-jack – one that I apparently started! I’ve just started going back through SOA via Netflix, but was blown away by the Season 3 premiere – especially the no dialog drive-by vignette set to Richard Thompson’s “Dad’s Gonna Kill Me.” I don’t watch enough TV of any variety to vote for best of, but this show has me hooked so far.

I’ve heard good things about Glee but I haven’t made it a priority to watch it so maybe I’ll catch it on DVD from the library. I did watch most of the first two seasons of Desperate Housewives in reruns and liked it but not enough to keep up with it.

I never saw DHW until this past winter; I was unaware it was mostly a comedy. I was also unaware they’d added Dana Delaney to the cast.

Might just get onto my Hulu queue…

I wll cop to the fact that I saw “The Unit” for the first time after I saw DHW. And given the mixing of sub-stories – between the Delta operators and their wives – for a while, I’d nicknamed the show “Desperate Commandos”.
