The Left’s Slander Team

Seen on Twitter last week:

MN Gov Hopeful Tom Emmer Doesn’t Want Schools Telling His Kids Not to Taunt Gay Kids

It pointed to a post on a gay website about Emmer’s opposition to a “bullyting” bill larded with objectionable amendments that had more to do with keeping plaintiffs’ lawyers employed than stopping bullying.  Money quote:

Yeah, pesky big brother! Get out of the way of parents teaching their kids whether or not pushing the faggot down the steps is okay.

They’re getting deranged.

  1. If I recall correctly, the anti-bullying bill listed various liberal victim groups. It basically set up certain groups to bring lawsuits. It was a very bad bill.

  2. I was bullied all throughout middle school. Kids will be kids, and they need to be taught by parents and teachers, NOT government, that its wrong. It sets up the victim mentality at such a young age, you don’t like something about your life sue to fix it. What a great message…

  3. I don’t have a problem with anti-bullying legislation. The problem with the bill was that it listed certain liberal victim groups for special protection.

  4. The thesis advanced by Emmer’s critics regarding his vote is this: Emmer voted against the anti-bullying bill, therefore he is in favor of bullying. Well, that’s one possibility. Other possibilites are that the bill duplicated protection already guaranteed in law and requires additional documentation by school officials at a time when budgets and personnel duties are already stretched paper thin. Here is something else to consider: apart from the feel-good aspects of passing new laws to protect victims, what do these laws accomplish? Do they in fact, reduce bullying; or do do they create new protected classes who will then be able to sue public officials for alleged failure to deter bullies?

Here is a link to an article that addresses the question:

  5. from the article:
Do anti-bullying laws work? According to Psychologist J. David Smith, Ph.D., of the University of Ottawa, they do not. In The Effectiveness of Whole-School Anti-Bullying Programs: A Synthesis of Evaluation Research, Smith analyzed research studies on the effectiveness of whole-school anti-bullying programs. Smith reports, “86 percent of victimization outcomes (reports by victims of program benefits) were negligible or negative and the remaining 14 percent of reported effects were positive (albeit small).”

but hey if it feels good do it. What matters isn’t results, only intentions…

The 2 sentence summary of liberals’ theology.

  7. OK, government works by force, teachers are employees of the government. Explain to me, in that light, what “success” government employees are going to have at preventing bullying?

It’s in the nature of the beast…..
