“I’m going to make the rich pay their fair share. Well, at least the rich that actually work and earn a living.”

Lessee….we are supposed to trust the guy who has never done anything but listen (mostly) to his trust fund manager to responsibly manipulate the levers of government, but the guy who has built a business and run it profitably should simply be glad if we tax his business to death instead of putting him in jail. Did I get that about right?

The Dayton economic weather report:
In Kenwood, all good
In Eden Prairie, kinda scary

Mark Dayton’s ballyhooed release of his income tax returns provides a glimpse into his convoluted state of mind. His campaign announces that the “rich” should pay their “fair share.” without defining either term. My spouse and I work full time; most of our income is from our salaries as opposed to capital gains and interest. We did not sell any works of art that allegedly depreciated in value, allowing for a healthy tax deduction.
It happens that our joint income is slightly higher than Mr. Dayton’s. Not by a lot, but enough that our taxes were higher. What is interesting is that Mr. Dayton got a big break only from the feds. His taxable income was $127K and he paid only $13.9K in federal taxes. I’m discounting his $6.4K in taxes on household employees because he didn’t have to pay FICA and Medicare taxes like I did. I paid more than he did, but I’ll ignore that for the sake of simplicity. I paid more than twice the amount he did in federal taxe even though my adjusted gross income was only $15K more than Mr. Dayton’s. Hmmm, maybe he’s on to something. Wait. he’s running for governor, so he can do NOTHING about federal taxes.
As far as the state goes, he and I got about the same percentage bite. My state taxable income was 19% higher and my state tax bill was 17% higher. I guess that makes me richer than Mr. Dayton, who is rich by anybody’s definition. So I guess he wants me to pay my “fair share”, even though I believe 7% tacked onto my federal obligation, plus sales taxes, user fees, health care provider taxes is plenty fair.
NO THANKS, Mark. I’m taxed enough.

Mark Dayton wants to tax the WORKING rich so the money can be funneled to HIS causes (read voters wanting a hand-out). Any way you cut it Trust Fund Mark’s campaign mantra is TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX………pandering bastard!!

Am I the only one that saw an uncanny resemblence in that ad between Dayton and Billy Bob Thronton as the slingblade guy?
I swear I thought I heard Mark mumble something about mashed ‘taters…

Poor Mark doesn’t grasp the fact that he is a congenital idiot. That makes him the perfect DFL candidate.

C’mon, golfdoc, there are a lot of assistant deputy superintendents who have to pay for their new sun rooms and whatnot. Did you ever think about their needs, you cheap weasel?

Nope, I’m wallowing in self pity. I think I’ll go contemplate my Chagall painting before I sell it on Ebay.

In a world that made any sense, Mark Dayton’s cigarette boat would be tied up at Lord Fletcher’s, where he would be holding court and hitting on vapid twentysomething chickies; or, he’d be holding a “will work for an Olde English” cardboard sign at the end of some off-ramp. The notion that this gibbering lunatic was at one time a US Senator, and is now a serious contender for a post in which he can CALL OUT THE EFFIN NATIONAL GUARD should strike terror into the hearts of any rational Minnesotan.

I’ve got that exact, same Chagall Golfdoc! Got it on ebay. Who knew that Chagall painted on black velvet? I got his “Study of Elvis”, too!

I was talking to Emmer’s dad and uncle before the Chanhassen 4th of July parade and I casually brought up these ads. I basically said can you believe the balls of Mark Dayton? I actually give the guy credit saying what he means instead of using typical DFL wordplay. Everyone vote for him in the primary please! He might finish 3rd in the race.

That Chagall will look great on the wall of the assistant deputy superintendent’s new sunroom. That’s the spirit, golfdoc — way to pony up for a Better Minnesota!

First question to Dayton, what tax rate will close the 6 BILLION dollar gap and keep it closed for your term for govenor. Second question at what income level will you start this tax the rich plan.
