The FBI and the cooperating agencies, etc. are very clear that they close out files that are empty threats, just casual bad talk. The less clear cases that are not clearly threats they might hand off to the local authorities.
But they keep open investigations into serious threats – and for example, the Pierrello ‘vandalism’ threat in Virginia is still one of those open, ongoing investigations.
I do not personally know a single conservative I would describe as violent. I think there are quite a few individuals I believe could be appropriately violent if there were a valid provocation – like a threat to a member of your family or your own life. I think of you as one of those individuals, Mitch, but it is an unrelated assessment to your politics – I believe the same of Pen for example.
Not only does that not bother me, I think the world is a safer place because of it.
On the other hand, when I read or listen to Sharron Angle out in Nevada talking or writing approvingly about ‘2nd Amendment Remedies’ against lawfully and properly elected representatives to Congress with whom she and other conservatives disagree, I am far less comfortable. The overwhelming majority of the threats have been against the center and the left.
So, it is a case of a segment of the right that condones and approves of violence, that is connected to those who make these threats and who in some instances try to carry them out – and will not willingly strongly disapprove of violence publicly – that is at issue, NOT ALL CONSERVATIVES.
I believe this parallels a mostly-off-blog exchange we have been having Mitch about too-broad brush strokes. THIS is what I mean by that.

Well, no – by whatever name, what they’re all referring to is a “selectively overreported smattering of crimes and a wave of angry phone messages, reported via a case of the victorian vapours to try to slander the opposition”. Nothing more.
I started working on a page – not a blog post, but a static permanent page – documenting the real avalanche of violence from the left, including the mainstream left. It’s taking a while. It’s a lot of work.

That would be funny if it didn’t underscore that “you guys” want way more government (and consequently way less freedom) than any successful democratic republic should have. It’s really too bad you think people are so stupid that your control of they’re lives is required. *shrug*
