My Weekend Earworm

Perhaps it’s because I’m fortysomething, and have found things in my life that yank on my emotions harder than music does – kids, relationships, divorce, stress – but it’s rare that new music jumps out and grabs me in my liver and says “Dance, MoFo!”

Just thought I’d say – I had one of those moments the other day. The band is “Jet”, and they had a hit about six years ago with “Do You Wanna Be My Girl”, which was a fun little rock and roll shuffle but not something to go to war over, capisce?

This song, “Goodbye Hollywood”, is totally different.  It totally rocks my world.

And if the promise of a great rock ‘n roll song isn’t enough to make you listen, the fact that I couldn’t find a video version, so you’ll have to use this version featuring Kate Beckinsale writhing about the place as a substitute.

Any objections?

I rather thought not.

  1. Took a trip down memory lane this weekend when I caught “Rush-Beyond the Lighted Stage” on Paladium. A pretty comprehensive video look at the band from the beginning. Take aways were–still great musicians + some really down to earth guys who one could drink a couple of Molson’s with. When did we get so old?

  2. Heh. We didn’t. The world got younger.

But I’ve noticed that from a lot of rock stars who’ve been at it for a long, long time; eventually they work the star-tripping out of their system, and turn out pretty cool.

Speaking of Molsons – my neighbor Flash is as big a Rush fan as you (and his son just joined the USAF, btw), and he’s used some contacts to send a standing invite to the guys to his garage – which is sort of my neighborhood’s bar, with a kegerator in the back. Rush hasn’t shown yet, but if I recall correctly a couple members of Boston showed up once…

(Do I have that right, Flash?)

Maybe after this next Rush gig in the Twin Cities…
