The Longest Day, Redux

By Mitch Berg

There’s almost too much history this past few weeks.

Today is, of course, the 66th anniversary of D-Day:

I’m happy with the piece I wrote two years ago on the subject.

Thanks, D-Day veterans.

    Oooh! 6666. This means something!

  2. Dog Gone Says:

You forgot one Kermit, there is another 6 – the attack, H-Hour, was launched at 6:30 a.m., although that :30 kind of ruins the series….

I started to write something on D-Day, but I am so consistently humbled and in awe of Mitch’s efforts on the subject that I was intimidated from doing much.

Mitch, darlin’, you’d have made a fabulous history teacher. You have the ability to make the events come alive through your own enthusiasm for the subject. For that — thank you. Even the repeats are superb.

Well he is an English major!

Maybe in a pre-digital age, Dog Bone. In 1944, 6:30 means the big hand is on the 6!

    Mitch,
This was truly a big week in WW II history. Next year take a look at 1942 (4-7 June) and what was happening way out west. Arguably, more important than Overlord in a “keep from losing before we think about winning” sort of way!

Thanks for all the great history of that era!

    Fingers,

Yep! Already getting ready for that one…

…as well as August, and naturally a shout out to the hometown in October.
