The Good Guys Win One

By Mitch Berg

Will this story appear in the Strib?

A shooting occurred uring an armed robbery attempt in Excelsior overnight. It happened at the Lakeshore Market on Highway 7 shortly after 10:30 pm. Two men wearing masks entered the store and encountered a clerk with a gun. Police chief Brian Litsey says at least one of the robbers was shot and wounded.

Being Excelsior, there’s a decent chance that the shooter will not be considered the real criminal.

Still, chalk one up for the good guys.

I love stories with a happy ending!

BTW, keep us posted if you or Joel learn that the clerk is in need of some funds to pay his lawyers…..

Top story as a matter of fact:

I shop at this market often. The family that owns it are wonderful people, living out the “American Dream”. Both mother and father immigrated to the U.S. in search of that dream and work very hard to provide a good home and education for their family. They need our support now more than ever! Please stop by and offer your help!

Is that a shot at Excelsior? Surprised a St. Paul guy like you even knows the name of a town in the western ‘burbs.

    As Micheal Savage would say………

How conveeeeeeeeeenient! Story line, 9:15 AM, over one hour from Mitch’s posting!

  7. apathyboy Says:

It looks like the story was bumped down, the top story now being a double homicide. Looks like the Strib went right back to their obvious anti-gun-rights propaganda.

Fisch: I don’t know who should be more flattered, Mitch for the implication that the Strib basis their reporting off of what they see on SID, or Michael Savage for having another fan jump on his false-association bandwagon.

  8. Mitch Berg Says:

Mock if you will, AB. The Strib’s editorial page bias was constant – although, as I noted in 2002 and 2003, Conrad DeFiebre’s coverage was relatively fair and balanced, and actually did present the case FOR concealed carry for the late nineties.

  9. bubbasan Says:

AB, you also might not be aware that the Minneapolis police have an “arrest the gun” policy. Unless the policy has changed, any use of a firearm will result in the arrest of the shooter–even if the police were watching a clear cut case of self defense as it occurred.

Hence the comment about saner minds in the western suburbs–at least we hope.

Speaking of being arrested, the House has just passed a bill that would pay states to keep DNA samples from anyone arrested (not convicted, just arrested) forever.

  10. swiftee Says:

bubbasan, in Minneapolis, it’s actually a “tase, beat and arrest the gun owner; take the gun home with you if it’s a good one” policy.

  11. bubbasan Says:

I sit on my duff corrected!

  12. DiscordianStooj Says:

Bubbasan, where did you hear about that policy? The one that might be legitimate, not swiftee’s obsessive fantasy one.

I ask because I can’t find anyone at work who thinks that is the case.

Excelsior is just East of Victoria and Minitrista, two cities with a LOT of rich, white folks. They tend to frown on armed robbery (or any robbery, for that matter). They also know how to quietly manipulate their police forces.

I expect the store owner will be given a seat of honor at the next Rotary Club dinner.
