I peeled this bit out of my liveblog, since I think it’s worth a discussion on its own.
One of the tempests in the teapot last night; a group of “liberty” members of the party were tweeting merrily away that Norm Coleman and that noted moderate Vin Weber were making phone calls on behalf of Tom Emmer. Now, among the purist/libertarian wing of the party, Norm (and Pawlenty, for that matter) are anathema, because they’re just not pure enough.
Of course, absolute purism and fifty cents will get you a cup of coffee; politics means compromise. Did Norm and Governor Pawlenty always make the right compromises? Perhaps not – but you have to be in office to be have an imperfect record.
But here’s a question I’d like to ask (if only rhetorically) to the “Emmer’s a RINO because Norm’s calling for him crowd”; which of Norm’s objectionable policies do you believe Emmer subscribes to, merley because Norm is making calls on his behalf?
Or is this just the most ofay attempt at guilt by association – policy by association, really – that I’ve ever seen?
Feel free to leave an answer in the comments.
Where can you buy coffee for 50 cents?
These people are unthinking. That’s all I have to say about that.
Agree with WSH. We disagree on other issues, but if they agree with us here, what’s the problem? While you’re at it, give me some disgruntled Dem’s who finally realize that not one of their primary candidates can possibly keep their promises. This is what the big tent is for – a big audience.
Rhetorical question alert!:
These “liberty” people wouldn’t just happen to be the same “Real Conservatives” that like to quote Naomi Wolf and Howard Zinn(!) as to how EEEVILL American foreign policy is, would they?
Attention, Emmer supporters: the RLC and Karl Marx are questioning your so-called “conservative” credentials!!
Karl Marx questioning conservative credentials is lihouke Josef Stalin questioning pacifist and non-violent intervention tactics. It don’t add up. Oh and Mitch where the hell were you, I looked for you in 66B and the press pit (by where MPR was) but couldn’t find you. Kind of amazing considering you are more towering than me.
Heck, I saw him repeatedly in 66B, and even shook his hand when he wandered by 45. I think he was a bit twitterpated and didn’t remember who I was. Or maybe he did.
There is a huge difference between having someone who doesn’t line up with you on every issue campaign for you and taking policy advice from them, let alone following their example of unprincipled moderation. You need all sorts of people to get elected or endorsed, and speaking to one group doesn’t mean you have abandoned another.
Bill C – I was a bit “twitterpated”; nice to see you!
Ben: I was around .But I was moving around a LOT.
