For those of you from out of state, this is a traditional ceremony that marks the beginning of the process for a DFL politician retiring from politics; all the real candidates are running in the primary.

  1. This is really the best news I’ve heard in over a year. The DFL could not have picked a worse candidate (besides Al Franken).

  2. And that turned out so poorly for them.

No. The circumstances (worst year in a generation for the GOP, electoral system that rewards aggressive challenges to uncoordinated vote-counting standards) turned out well for them. In a sane state in a normal year, Franken would have been packed off to palookaville with due dispatch.

    Soon.

  4. Good grief. If Entenza, Dayton and Gaertner are the real candidates, good luck to the DFL. Those 3 plus MAK = Cantina scene in Star Wars.

  5. “With better makeup?” You mean a mask?
The reason two of the other candidates seeking endorsement dropped out and endorsed Anderson-Kelliher-John-Jacob-Jingleheimer-Schmidt-Merrill-Lynch-Pierce-Fenner-Smith-Sacco-Vanzetti was that she has promised single payer medical insurance.
Great play DFL! Your timing could not possibly have been better given recent poll numbers regarding ObamaCare.
Now, if the Repubs have learned from the Coleman/Franken race disaster, they might, MIGHT stand a chance of defeating Anderson-Kelliher-John-Jacob…..

  6. “Amendment X – Is “ObamaCare” a single payer health system?”
Not yet. But as I’m sure you’ve seen, Obama has been very clear and candid that single payer is exactly what he wants.
and to the average American voter, I’d be willing to bet that’s what they believe ObamaCare is.
Either way, you seem to have missed the point: any politico going near government run health care is playing with plutonium. And Anderson-Kelliher-John-Jacob-Jingleheimer-Schmidt-Merrill-Lynch-Pierce-Fenner-Smith-Sacco-Vanzetti wants single payer health care.
How, exactly, do YOU think that will resonate with voters?

  7. “And that turned out so poorly for them.”

The DFL needed to set up different voting standards (a vote from grandma didn’t count yet for the same situation urban Joe’s vote counted) in order for Franken to get selected.

That is a fact and you are ignorant if you claim differently, stool.

  8. What is your favorite part of Obamacare, Disco?

I’m not a fan. The dems went from offering everyone a less expensive, alternative health-plan to making everyone buy insurance without a lower-cost alternative, meaning the poor are still not going to be covered, but they’ll have to pay for it.

to the average American voter, I’d be willing to bet that’s what they believe ObamaCare is.

That’s because conservatives keep implying it is, and no one bothers to correct them.

  9. So, Discostooj, do you think the government will be able to offer you better healthcare at lower cost than your doctor can?
‘Cuz that would be funny. It would be just about the opposite of everything that the government has done. If they offered better stuff for the the same or less money, they wouldn’t have to pass a law to make you buy it.
I pay almost $10k/year to cover my wife & self. If Uncle Sam could give me the same coverage for $5k, do you think I would walk away because I’m a free-market purist?
Health care is expensive. You think Obammy can cover another 35 million people without increasing costs or degrading everyone’s care?
You want a public option, move to Canada and wait in line for a doctor with the other clients.

  10. I deplore the modern trend of adding Anderson to candidates names before they run for office in Minnesota, to dupe the Scandanavians into thinking “Well, she’s an Anderson, that’s all I need to know.”

I mean seriously, how dumb do they think voters are?

    Wait . . .
    .

  11. Unfortunately, my choice for State Auditor pulled the same thing previously. While she was mayor, she went by Pat Awada, adding in the Anderson- when she ran for auditor the first time around.

However, in my mind, her record as mayor telling the Met Council to stick it where the sun don’t shine, and her record as auditor the first time around, overcomes the ‘manipulate the scandahoovian last name for statewide comfort’ thing.

  12. I mean seriously, how dumb do they think voters are?

Dunno, but let me know if she starts wearing a feather boa, driving a green bus and body-slamming hecklers.

  13. DiscoStoo,

Leaving aside the fact that the “public option” single-payer plan would not have been less expensive – it is physically impossible, unless you ration care so tightly that you get a black market for Alka Seltzer – I had to comment on this:

to making everyone buy insurance without a lower-cost alternative, meaning the poor are still not going to be covered, but they’ll have to pay for it.

Well, no. It’s worse than that. “The poor”, and the lower middle class for that matter, will have the “option” of buying a plan (whose price WILL rise through the roof), or paying a fine to the IRS and waiting until they get sick to buy insurance (since they can’t be turned down for pre-existing conditions), which means preventive care for the poor is going to get vastly, vastly worse than it already is, and it’ll STILL be more expensive, since so much care will be dealing with acute symptoms rather than prevention.

Both plans are stupid. The only real option is to expel the Democrats from office, and keep them there by reducing them to a third party.

    I’m on it.

  14. How dumb do the DFL think voters are? Mark Dayton, Jesse Ventura, Al Franken…
    The list is endless.

  15. “Unfortunately, my choice for State Auditor…”

Tommy Rukavina called her “Osama bin Awada”. Tommy also said he wanted to slap her. (no word from DG on that threat… don’t hold your breath…)

  16. The American Heart Association just came out against Big MAK…they say Big MAK contributes to bloated government and is bad for our health.

  17. Bill C, I got a call from her last night, intelligent and articulate woman. I would be proud to help her as much as I can around the state. I didn’t know about that back in 2002. And as to K-Rod comments, dude she could beat the shit out of him.

  18. Not to cross-post against different thread topics, but…I’m cross-posting different thread topics!

    Tommy is an Iron Ranger.

    Speaking of DUI’s…

  19. So, Discostooj, do you think the government will be able to offer you better healthcare at lower cost than your doctor can?

Not me. I have a good health plan. It’s not offered by my doctor though. Are there a lot of doctors out there selling cheap health insurance?

“The poor”, and the lower middle class for that matter, will have the “option” of buying a plan

They have that option without the bill. They just can’t afford it. The bill that was passed did nothing but fine them if they can’t afford it.

since so much care will be dealing with acute symptoms rather than prevention.

    Just like it is now.

That’s why I agree that it was a bad bill.

  20. True, but that really doesn’t have much ado with being a good Governor.

Heck, I’d vote for the next Reagan even if she had 4 DUIs.
