NARN At The Fair: Here’s The Beef (Or Elk, Turkey, Gator, Buffalo Or Corndog)

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Today, the Northern Alliance Radio Network wraps up our sixth year at the Minnesota State Fair from 11AM-5PM.  We’ll be at our posh digs on Dan Patch Avenue, about 100 yards west of the main Snelling Avenue entrance, next to the Merchandise Mart, across from the Culligan, Farmers Union and DFL (hah!) booths.

We have eight solid hours of great live radio planned:

  • Volume I “The First Team” –  Brian and John will be dredging the sideshows for the kind of guests that even Howard Stern wouldn’t interview, from 11-1.
  • Volume II “The Headliner”Ed and I are up from 1-3.  Today, we’re scheduled to have GOP Gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer, as well as reps from our sponsor, the US Army, and much more!
  • Volume III, “The Final Word”King is up next; he’ll be breaking his 22 year abstention from meat at some point during the show.  See what meat won the poll over at SCSU Scholars.
  • And don’t forget, our long-time colleagues David Strom and Margaret Martin lead things off on the David Strom Show from 9-11AM!

Where’s The Beef?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

King Banaian is ending 22 years of vegetarianism tomorrow.  It’s for medical reasons, natch.

And his inaugural hit is going to be tomorrow at the Minnesota State Fair, and he needs your help.

He’s running a poll to see what the first meat is going to be.  The choices are Buffalo, Gator, Elk, Turkey or Corn Dog.  For the love of the great almighty, please don’t vote for the Corn Dog.

Bummer that he left the Wild Boar off the list.  That’s yummy.

Live At The Fair!

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Ed and I are at the Fair again.

Today – Eva Ng (GOP-endorsed candidate for Mayor of St. Paul) and Laura Brod, who is, pinky swear, not a gubernatorial candidate…

ON from 5-7!

NARN At The Fair

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Ed and I are setting up to follow MIchael Medved at the Minnesota State Fair.

Today, we’ll be talking with Senator Dave Hahn, who’s running for the gubernatorial nomination, as well as our sponsors at Heartland Tours, and the folks from Tee It Up For The Troops!

5-7!  Join us!

A Fair Day

Embarassment of Radio Riches

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

We’re about two weeks away from the Minnesota State Fair, which is always the highlight of the the NARN’s year.  But that’s so big, it needs its own post.

Just wanna point out that Saturday’s broadcast is going to be an embarassment of radio riches, and that if you don’t tune in, generations yet unborn will repudiate your short-sightedness.

For starters, Duane “The Generalissimo” Patterson, ace producer of the Hugh Hewitt show, will be guest-hosting with me live from LA.   It’s always fun talking with Duane, and he loves getting calls from Minnesotans.  Especially about Disneyland rides.

At 1:30, we’ll be joined by Representative Michele Bachmann, of the Sixth Congressional District.  We’ll be talking about healthcare and the 2010 race, among other things.

And we saved the best for last; I’ll be joined at 2PM by “Doc” Pepping, one of the original members of E Company of the 506th Airborne Regiment, better known to recent generations as Stephen Ambrose’s “Band of Brothers”.  Doc was one of the original Toccoa boys, a medic during the Normandy assault, and has a lot to talk about.  He’ll be joined by Dave Cruz from “Honor The Fallen” and Mark Schultz from “Vettes for Vets”.  It’ll be crowded in the studio, but the fun kind.

Mark it down, and join us!

Now, This Is Kinda Big

Friday, July 24th, 2009

While I’m always excited for the Northern Alliance broadcasts, in about a month we have what could be one of my favorites, ever.

“Doc” Pepping, one of the original “Toccoa Boys” from E Company of the 506th Airborne, immortalized in Steven Ambrose’s Band of Brothers, will be a guest on our August 22nd broadcast.  He’ll be in town for the Savage American Legion Corvette Club event, “Vettes for Vets”, which’ll be the next day (Sunday the 23rd). He’ll be on along with Dave Cruz, with Honor the Fallen.

Mark your calenders; this oughtta be good!

While Out And About This Weekend…

Friday, July 17th, 2009

…how about stopping by the CarCraft Summer Nationals at the Fairgrounds this weekend!

The Northern Alliance will be out there this weekend from 11AM to 5PM tomorrow, at our posh digs on Dan Patch just inside the front gate. We’ll be checking out the cars – kinda like the MSRA Back To The Fifties event, except that cars after 1964 are allowed – and talking about the week that’s been.

Hope you can make it!

O’Reilly Is A Lame Punk

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Ed landed a great “get” on the Northern Alliance Volume II show today; Patrick “Patterico” Frey, of Patterico’s Pontifications, talking about the run-in with Bill O’Reilly.

A brief run-down of the flap:

  1. Thursday, O’Reilly slagged on Hot Air – Michelle Malkin’s blog, for which my radio colleague Ed Morrissey writes – for making a scabrous posting.
  2. Michelle, Ed and Allahpundit noted that the “posting” in question was actually a comment; something that Hot Air doen’t regulate or supervise a whole lot more strictly than I do.
  3. O’Reilly went on “The Factor” and issued a wussy non-apology, saying in essence “OK, I reported it wrong, but Hot Air should police their comments as rigously as I police mine.
  4. Patterico signed up for a membershp ($5 a month – yes, you have to pay to leave a comment at O’Reilly’s website), and published a slew of scabrous, “unpoliced” comments.
  5. Patterico’s membership was terminated.

Patterico’s conclusion, via Ed?

Did Patterico get a high-five from the Factor for his intrepid work in pointing out hateful comments?  Not exactly:

I wish I could share today’s “BillOReilly.com blog posting” . . . but my membership has been terminated …

Oh, wait. I just reviewed the Terms and Conditions again, and I believe I have found the relevant language: “4. Do not expose Bill O’Reilly as a rank hypocrite.”

Note to O’Reilly; take your “No Integrity Zone” and go over to the other guys once and for all.  You’re not a conservative; you’re a populist gasbag who would throw the Reagan Legacy and the Rights of Man under the bus to give you an extra point in the PPMs.
Go.  Please.

By the way, feel free to check in on Monday at Townhall.com for the podcast of today’s show.  Patterico is at the end of Hour 2, but it was a good show from beginning to end, and you could do a lot worse than add it to your weekly podcast diet.
