Just So We’re Clear

By Mitch Berg

A guy who started a snitch line, enacted a thoughtcrime database, sicced the Attorney General on businesses that tried to survive his draconian and capricious Covid regulations and turned radical protesters into a fourth branch of government when he wanted social policy done…

…is lying to warn us about authoritarianism.

its projection again, see DOD Directive 5240.01. Regarding domestic operations:
Section 3.3.a.(2)(c) now explicitly permits lethal force in cases of imminent threats or national security emergencies, — against US Citizens on US soil.

    moderation?
    see DOD Directive 5240.01

  3. Mitch Berg Says:

    It was moderated.

    No idea why.

  4. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

Walz position is consistent with DNC policy. Nancy Pelosi refused to use National Guard troops to protect Congress on January 6. Walz refused to use National Guard troops to protect Minneapolis. So naturally, Walz opposes Trump’s idea of using National Guard troops to maintain order when leftists riot after Trump wins the election.

  5. SmithStCrx Says:

The irony of the man who says that the 1st Amendment doesn’t protect misinformation is truly a fount of misinformation.
Personally, I think I’d like to see the DoJ waste a bit of time prosecuting a couple of high profile Democrats (or even lower profile like Angie Craig) for there blatantly and repeatedly false claims on the Campaign Trail. And then when the defendants file their motions to dismiss, the DoJ should counter with those same defendants’ claims that the 1st Amendment doesn’t protect misinformation. It might just be worth the “wasted” tax dollars to make the point to the public, repeatedly.

A guy who started a snitch line (Oh, so a tip line is now not ok, but WAS ok when you wanted to crack down on crime, oh, ok, got it).
Enacted a thoughtcrime database (Lie) – prove that people were jailed for thoughts.

Sicced the Attorney General on businesses that tried to survive his draconian and capricious Covid regulations (Capricious ok, draconian, big FAT lie)

and turned radical protesters into a fourth branch of government when he wanted social policy done (whopper of a lie) – exactly where do those protesters get to vote on laws, enforce laws or adjudicate laws?

    Exaggerate much?

Walz didn’t threaten people with the Army and isn’t calling them “the enemy from within.”

It ain’t hard, Berg, and I know you’re smart enough to know it.

So, here’s a question for you AND your followers. Do you want to kill liberals? Do you want them jailed? How about shuttering liberal press outfits?

Things done during a pandemic to try to save lives, things which were the SAME as things done in the old “wild west” during pandemics, aren’t seeking to enact an authoritarian government. Calling protests and protesters “radical” (and thereby excusing any level of response, including shooting them apparently as Trump called for) when they protest (sometimes violently) after a group of police officers murder a man, IS authoritarian. Protesters who engage in violence deserve punishment commensurate with the law and crime, not to be shot, nor do they deserve to be called “political prisoners.”

The hypocrisy here is yours and yours alone.

So, do you intend to stand up for the right of those who disagree with you to speak? Musk doesn’t, Trump doesn’t, how about you?

By the way, I hope you show up at my polling place and attempt to intimidate voters, I’ll be happy to call the police.

I’d say picking and choosing which businesses are allowed to stay open (big box stores and a candy store that donated to Walz’s re-election campaign) and which businesses are forced to close down (most everything else) is pretty draconian. But I’m not a partisan democrat stooge.

  8. Mitch Berg Says:

Hey, Pen! Long time no see!

In all seriousness – I owe you a drink or two. Hit me up (my email never changes). My turn to buy!

    OK. Back down to business:

A guy who started a snitch line (Oh, so a tip line is now not ok, but WAS ok when you wanted to crack down on crime, oh, ok, got it).

If you can’t see the difference between calling in actual crimes, and people gathering for Thanksgiving, or going outdoors without masks, or having friends over, I’m not sure what to tell you.

  9. Mitch Berg Says:

Enacted a thoughtcrime database (Lie) – prove that people were jailed for thoughts.

Strawman. I didn’t say anyone had been imprisoned.

But seriously, Pen – tell me that if any Republican started a speech database that:

    • Was controlled by the executive branch
    • was intentionally exempted from data practices rules or other government transparency laws
    • Had had any semblance of transparency systematically removed

that you wouldn’t be crying “Fascism”.

    Seriously.

  10. Mitch Berg Says:

Sicced the Attorney General on businesses that tried to survive his draconian and capricious Covid regulations (Capricious ok, draconian, big FAT lie)

    Nah, it was draconian.

Forget about asking the owners of businesses arbitrarily shut down by decree, who tried to open to survive, only to have the attorney general mau-mau them.

The governor held extraordinary “emergency power” for 18 months – which was about 15 months longer than there was an emergency.

    That’s draconian. Also unforgivable.

  11. Mitch Berg Says:

and turned radical protesters into a fourth branch of government when he wanted social policy done (whopper of a lie) – exactly where do those protesters get to vote on laws, enforce laws or adjudicate laws?

Remember when the mob tore down the Columbus statue? There’s actually a due process to change things on the Capitol mall . But when the mob came to tear it down, the State Patrol was (according to Senate Majority Leader Gazelka) ordered to stand aside and let ’em do it.

Which fulfilled the administration’s wish, without having to bother with pesky rules.

    Exaggerate much?

As usual – not in the least.

  12. Mitch Berg Says:

Walz didn’t threaten people with the Army and isn’t calling them “the enemy from within.”

Trump was referring to siccing the Guard on rioters – something Governor Klink did, although not until way too late.

Not sure if you remember the riots, out in your leafy burb. I do – the nearest building to my house that got burned was three blocks away. A lot of us, lf all political persuasions, were hoping for a lot more Guard than we got (although the SPPD actually did a decent job).

You’ll note that the Governor didn’t get serious about sending the Guard until Trump threatened to send the regular Army.

  13. Mitch Berg Says:

So, here’s a question for you AND your followers. Do you want to kill liberals? Do you want them jailed? How about shuttering liberal press outfits?

No, no and no, and you’re not an idiot. You know all of those answers. Or you should.

  14. Mitch Berg Says:

Things done during a pandemic to try to save lives, things which were the SAME as things done in the old “wild west” during pandemics, aren’t seeking to enact an authoritarian government.

And yet that’s exactly what we had. 18 months of single-person rule. There’s no other term for it.

  15. Mitch Berg Says:

Calling protests and protesters “radical” (and thereby excusing any level of response, including shooting them apparently as Trump called for) when they protest (sometimes violently) after a group of police officers murder a man, IS authoritarian.

Well, it certainly is a use of authority – but it’s far from free of precedent.

Was it “authoritarian” when FDR used the Army to break strikes?

How about when Eisenhower and Kennedy sent the regular Army, with guns out and ready to go, to support court ordered integration?

Or when Walz (very belatedly) sent the MN Guard to Minneapolis?

Helping preserve the public order, with statutory limits, is well within the role of local, state and federal government.

Pretending otherwise is just wishful thinking.

  16. Mitch Berg Says:

Protesters who engage in violence deserve punishment commensurate with the law and crime, not to be shot, nor do they deserve to be called “political prisoners.”

    Ya THINK?

The hypocrisy here is yours and yours alone.

You keep having trouble with what that word means.

Neither Trump nor I advocate using the Guard as a death squad, there’s no hypocrisy.

  17. Mitch Berg Says:

So, do you intend to stand up for the right of those who disagree with you to speak?

    Always have.

    Musk doesn’t,

Sure he does. Twitter and Facebook throttled my content constantly back in 2020-2021, on subjects related to:

    • Covid lockdowns
    • acuired immunity
    • Hunter Biden’s laptop

I’d be comfortable betting a shiny new quarter you supported Dorsey and Zuckerberg in that censorship. Musk changed that.

    Trump doesn’t, how about you?

    Don’t flatter yourself.

  18. Mitch Berg Says:

By the way, I hope you show up at my polling place and attempt to intimidate voters, I’ll be happy to call the police.

What a weird thing to say.

When have I ever talked about any such thing?

  19. jdm Says:

Well stated, Mitch. I bet you had fun writing those responses. And honestly, that Penigma fella is pretty creepy – you take care if you buy him alcoholic beverages.

  20. John "Bigman" Jones Says:

Judging from that writing sample, it seems pretty clear that Penigma suffers from some form of mental illness as evidenced by his many delusions and fantasies. I’m not a doctor so I can’t tell if it’s merely a dissociative disorder or a full-blown psychotic break, but you owe it to your friend to call the tip line seeking a Red Flag Law order. He shouldn’t be anywhere near firearms, in his present mental state. And if they decide he needs involuntary commitment until his mind is restored, he’ll thank you when it gets out. It’s what friends do.

Don’t worry about him missing his chance to vote in the election while he’s being held for psychiatric treatment. I’m sure he’s already voted. And if not, his buddies in the DFL will make certain his vote is counted soon and often.

  21. Mitch Berg Says:

    JDM and JJ,

Pen is actually an old friend. I think he has a hard time with tone online – lots of people do.

But yeah, the responses are fun, in the same sense that starting a crossword puzzle is fun; trying to figure out the method, if any, to the madness is half the fun.
