False Idols

By Mitch Berg

Don’t Create False Idols” is a Biblical commandment; essentially saying don’t turn God into a token object.

It is important enough to the Christian faith to rate as one of the ten standing orders for the faithful.

And, really, it’s great advice for life in general.

For example – I’m not one who creates an artificial separation between faith and science.

But if you do? If you claim to exalt reason over “blind” faith, and adulation of physical objects or people over empirical rigor?

It’s still good advice.

“You can’t expect anyone to trust revelation if he hasn’t experienced it himself. Those who haven’t only know reason. And since revelation is a thing apart, and cannot be accounted for reasonably, they never will believe you. This is the great division of the world and always has been. When reason and revelation run together, why, then you have something great, a great age.”

Strom: Alphabet ideology begins with a rather prosaic truth: that HOW we express our gender is time, place, and culture-dependent, and that some people express their individuality more or less in line with the norms of their society. In other words, we can have traits and personalities that are more “masculine” or “feminine” based on the norms of our society, and our personalities come off as more or less in line with the gender ideal of the society in which we live.

In other words, nurture, not nature.

When you get down to it, the basic biological programming in all animals is 1) look out for myself (and USUALLY in most mothers “my offspring”), and 2) to perpetuate their species using whatever mechanism God/Mother Nature/Gaia/creator of your choice provided. Humans are the only animal capable of thinking “I don’t want to have sex/have kids”

My response to those that say homosexuality/gender fluidity/alphabet soup identity is “Nature, not nurture”:

Show me one other mammal that, without technological assistance, can procreate amongst a single XX/XY sex. Denying your inherent maleness/femaleness and “not having the mental wiring to associate with the opposite sex/gender” is exactly antithetical to my #2 above.

“But @IowaDairyFarmer shows female cows in heat humping other female cows!!!” Right, but they can’t get each other pregnant. That requires a visit by a bull or artificial insemination.

It is literally physically impossible for 2 XX females or 2 XY males to procreate without assistance. XX females do not produce sperm. XY males do not produce ovum. They each lack the respective organs and plumbing to do so. God/Mother Nature/Gaia/creator of your choice is not in the business of making creatures that would die off in a single generation.

In 500 years, when an archeologist digs up current human remains? They’re only going to be able to identify “male” or “female” based on structural skeletal differences. Any of the other 79 (and counting) genders will be undiscoverable without alternate records (technological assistance).

I wonder if Dr Tyson could answer those points.
