Hubris

By Mitch Berg

No big secret here – I literally care about international cricket more than soccer – men’s or women’s.

Nothing against the sport – it has just never grabbed me in any way, mentally or emotionally. It takes time away from baseball.

Of course, if you think the NFL is corrupt, wait’ll you get a load of FIFA. But that’s another whole issue.

Of course, the US Women’s team has squandered a lot of iti’s Mia Hamm-era goodwill by wrapping itself around a lot of social third rails – but that, in and of itself, has little to do with my ennoi about the “most popular sport in the world”.

I will confess to feeling no suspense whatsoever about the World Cup, men’s or womens.

Oh, I do know the US has won the event several times. Twice. Four times? A bunch. Yay US.

Now, chalk it up to a rural Scandinavian-American upbringing, where “don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched, and assume you won’t wind up with any chickens” is pretty much part of life from as early as you can comprehend eggs, chickens and Janteloven.

But when I saw this particular ad campaign and the hubris that had to have been behind it…

…I knew that the US was going to get upset.

Not going to say I “predicted” it, but I sure felt it.

Wish I’da gone to the sports book.

It’s why we play sports. It is fun to win. It is hard to win all the time. It is humbling when you lose. How you handle these realities are the key to a good life.

I suspect that women’s soccer in the US was actually trying to pander to the folks they thought were their base. In general, you have to be young to be even tangentially interested in soccer. And for women’s sports you would usually assume that the audience tends to be women and beta male “feminist allies.” Combine those two demographics while trying to come up with an edgy slant to get you some traction and attention and you’d almost assume they would do “social third rails” as a marketing strategy in any case.

Paint drying is more exciting than men’s soccer. Women’s soccer is less exciting than watching corn grow. And I’ve grown up playing and coaching soccer!

I’m sure every bull dyke, dress wearing man, double mastectomied former cheerleader, pedophile, 250lb green haired twin flap, FUPA flouncing activist, and soy sucking leftist is devastated.

My FTG meter is pegged on empty.

rAT squeaked: “It is fun to win. It is hard to win all the time. It is…”

Is that the kind of shit you whisper to the kiddies from the bushes next to the swingset, rAT?

Follow-up from one of the “smrt” lefties. Sam Stein tries shaming the Right for ‘being too into politics’ with US Women’s soccer team

Hmong Mpls cop gets more than max sentence for Hus part in the George Floyd drug overdose debacle.

Judge decided he didn’t self-denigrate enough during his struggle session.

I applaud this decision. Every cop that takes a cop job in a leftist shithole needs to get xer mind right.

It’s not “protect and serve” it’s “serve on your knees”.

  8. Blade Nzimande Says:

I’m hoping for a flood of cop persecutions in the next few years…”lock them up!”

That ensures the new recruits will be soft, and pliable.

JDM, I have no idea who Sam Stein is, but his name tells me everything I need to know.

Without looking (pinky swear) I’m gonna take a WILD guess he’s from NYC, but maybe lives in DC now.

    Close?

Well, the Swedes did it fair and square, but the thought occurred to me–since Rapinoe DID come out in favor of trans players in her sport–that you just have them play a decent high school boys’ team from pretty much anywhere in the world. No?

Didn’t happen, but it would have been precious to watch her defending the practice of letting people call themselves “trans” after her team got clobbered (again) by FC Dallas Under-15.

I donno, if you have ever seen reportage on Not the 9 O’Clock News, you would start cheering for women’s soccer.

Some oh-so smart (guy) who writes for Politico. Think of him as Fluffy’s successful older step brother.

Several people close to me, think it’s OK for trans men to compete against women. They can’t accept my assertion that 99% of them are perverted scum that just want to legally leer at naked women, without being charged with a crime. Of course, none of these advocates for mentally handicapped men, will be naked around them, let alone take showers with them. They just expect other women and young girls to do so, except their daughters. If you haven’t heard Riley Gaines, the biggest advocate for real women’s sports, talk about this, you need to listen. Unfortunately, too many women, who also object to these practices, many of them having been traumatized by sexual assault, are afraid to speak up. The same morons that push for the “rights” of these perverts, still won’t answer why women who think they’re guys, clamoring to compete with men, on men’s teams?
