I Love A Happy Ending

By Mitch Berg

Philly woman comes home to burglars ransacking her apartment.

They attack her.

She attacks back:

Police say an unidentified woman returned to her apartment in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday and discovered four men inside.

A struggle broke out between the woman and four suspected burglars, with the woman ultimately pulling out a firearm and shooting at the group.

Two of the suspects were shot and injured, while the other two managed to flee the scene. It is not clear if the two who fled were also injured by the gunfire.

In two bits of unrelated news:

Unexpectedly.

    The news of those carry permit applications in Philly that are up 600% is from June 20, 2022. I wonder how many permits were actually issued?

    Is Mpls or St Paul still hesitant to issue permits? Metro counties/cities?

    jdm;
    In an article from March 2022 in Philadelphia Magazine, indicated that the denial rate was around 10%. The article goes on to state that even some that were denied their permits, still carry. One man was quoted as not bothering to appeal his rejection, because he had some past drug issues. At the time of that article, carrying without a permit, was only a misdemeanor. It also indicated that a large percentage of the increase, were women.

    JDM, while RamCo Sheriff Fletcher (and presumably also HennCo Sheriff Witt given her politics) does not like the idea of must-issue carry, the laws were carefully worded to force must-issue unless specific denial criteria were met. (Thanks to Prof Joseph Olson).

    Hutch was also anti-must-issue. I believe Stanek was not against must-issue.

    I am betting that had the issue been voted on today, both chambers of of the current legislature would have voted down the current carry permit laws. I don’t think DFL leadership would have allowed outstate gun-friendly district reps/sens to do as their constituents asked. Walz sure as hell wouldn’t have signed it if it did manage to get out of the legislature. Neither would have Dayton. It’s a good thing it happened when it did.
