This was started by Schroeder who was rewarded by a cushy seat at Rosneft. Then Merkel continued to subordinate her country’s energy policy to Russia. A disastrous decision with consequences that were painfully obvious — even at the time the decision was made. I liked Merkel, but that was a terrible mistake.
