Full Gaslight

On Facebook the other day, The “Reverend” Nancy Nord Bence went full-on gaslight:

“To face the reality of our gun problem, you’ll have to admit that you are the problem too. You’ll be forced to connect the dots between guns and your white theology, guns and your nationalism, guns and your Islamophobia, guns and your white supremacy, guns and your resentment of foreigners, guns and the people who so often shoot strangers in shopping malls and schools and churches and concerts—guns and you.”

That’s not “facing the reality of the ‘gun problem'”. That’s exposing the reality of American Tribalism, delivered with a nasal, smug upper-middle-class white ninny accent.

It’s a real-life example of what Dennis Prager says: “Conservatives think progressives are wrong; progressives think conservatives are *evil*. And you don’t bother talking, debating or reasoning with evil”.

Pass this around. People need to know the other side’s motivations.

This isn’t some crackpot. This is the moral and intellectual leader of the “gun safety” movement in Minnesota.

She’s one sick, twisted little person.

  1. What would be great, and will never happen, is to have the Rev NNB’s ordaining body get her to clarify what “white theology” is. I made the mistake of asking the internet what it was, and I immediately wished for brain bleach so I didn’t have to think of it again.

The amount of theories about privilege (and racism, sexism, …ism) have to have someone develop them. Likely someone in a studies department. Just think if that time and energy was used to create/think up something that is actually useful. I’m not talking a cure for cancer – too high level. Maybe, though, they could figure out a way to get people to zipper merge. That’d be useful and save countless manhours. Then again, it’d be turned into a non profit or a division on MN Dept of Health, and end up wasting time and money.

  2. … whats the deal with this PAC page… I mean, it has 50 likes and they have another page that has 5k likes. What are they trying to accomplish with this PAC page.

  3. My theology is color-blind. It tells me that lethal force in defense-of-self is a legitimate exception to Thou Shalt Not Kill, regardless of the tool used.

My nationalism tells me the greatest good is not dying for my country, but making the other poor, dumb, sumbich die for HIS country, using whatever tool is suitable for the job.

My “Islamophobia” arises from the fear that Muslims want to kill me, a fear with roots from 732 when Charles The Hammer defeated Muslim invaders at Tours, continuing through 2001 when Muslim terrorists brought down the Twin Towers. The tools used to defeat Muslim killers change; the need for the tools does not.

FBI statistics on black-on-white crime and crimes committed by illegal immigrants coupled with immunity for law enforcement’s failure to protect me, justify my desire to own an appropriate tool to protect myself.

School and mall shooters are entirely a creation of the Left, tossing mental health patients into the streets without supervision or medication.

I’m happy to connect the dots because in every case, the result vindicates me. Is the Left able to say the same?

  4. Oh, shit. Really?

So, in order to push any particular leftist agenda, you first must attach it to the evil white debbils…OK, got it.

Does anyone see the momentum building here, or am I just lost in the fantasy of my own “white, male privilege”?

    This isn’t some crackpot.
I beg to disagree, sir; most vigorously. Sooner or later, we will all have to come to understand “liberalism is a disease” isn’t a talking point. It’s a solid fact you can no longer dance around to be polite. Respond accordingly.

  5. School and mall shooters are entirely a creation of the Left, tossing mental health patients into the streets without supervision or medication.

No, it’s a joint project. The Left wants them out there because they view being addicted, deranged, incapacitated, living on the street, and dependent as a valid lifestyle choice (which it is compared to what they view should be done to “transgender” minors). The Right doesn’t want to pay for the mental health facilities. It was a joint effort to tear them down, and I don’t see any demand to build them up again.

It’s funny, but the whole premise of the Facebook post is actually the opposite: they’re trying to divide people about guns, and they believe that by antagonizing and insulting them they’ll get folks on the other side to agree to “sensible” restrictions. Don’t they realize that by taking off the mask they’re making compromise nearly impossible? Would anyone with an IQ above my dog’s agree to even inch close to a slippery slope with such vicious, frenzied partisans? And what about the non-metro DFL members, will they turn away from a party that’s actively going full commie?

  6. “School and mall shooters are entirely a creation of the Left, turning kids into untreated mental health patients in the public schools, and unleashing them back into society.”

    FTFY

  7. I gotta question for Berg, hope he doesn’t give it the Peevee treatment.

I remember, back when the NARN was roaring, we used to get together to get up in the leftist’s grill. What happened to that? The NARN is dead, but SITD still has a decent readership, and you’re still in the radio.

Did y’all just get too old to get up from the computer, or did ya give up in favor of squirting tears?

  8. Im just surprised Facebook actually pulled it down. Other than that nothing here is terribly surprising.

Swiftee, I think those were always more MOB things than NARN functions. I admidateddly do miss those day too (even though just about everyone there was old enough to be my Dad, I honestly dont remember another millenial showing up to a event, but as a conservative millenial you just kinda get used to being the youngest in the room by a few decades after awhile, but I digress…) but I would be down for a meet up a few times a year.

  10. To be fair, government run mental health hospitals were a disaster for patients. As you can generally expect from almost anything the government runs.

I know as a teen I provided some volunteer help for patients at the Montana State hospital for the mentally retarded (in Boulder, MT) during a staff strike. While many of the patients were severely impaired, those who were less impaired became less capable over time because the care level was aimed at the lowest level capability. It really was warehousing of the impaired and was demoralizing to witness.

All that said, I don’t know the best answer for the problem.

  11. Loren that sounds like a phenomanon I have unfortuantely become familiar with. I have Aspergers but wasnt diagnosed until I was 19. I was treated like other kids growing up and that was honestly the best thing for me, on rare occasions when I am around even the high functioning people like me I feel uncomfterable because I am not like them at all. And now with these kids being coddled in school growing up the real world ius going to completely destroy them and they wont know how to function at all. I mean something like 85-90% of the people with my condidition are unemployed but thats because they were never thrown into the deep end to try and figure things out like I was.

  12. People have been thinking and writing about morality, and what it means to live a virtuous life, for thousands of years. In late Roman times alone, you had the Stoics, the Aristotelians, the Skeptics, the Platonists, the Neo-Platonists, the Cynics, the Epicureans, and the Pythagorans, and I haven’t even mentioned the ethics of the various Christian sects or the Mystery cults.
Yet I cannot recall a single moral tradition, in the long history of mankind, that taught that the highest good is to angrily point out the race-based moral and ethical failures of others. Nord-Bence-ism? Elca-ethics?

  13. Boss, you’re probably already with me, but I’m guessing NNB already knows that, but doesn’t care, because her goal is not safety. It’s getting your guns.

  14. POD, My sister was mentally retarded. As much as possible, my parents pushed the public schools to mainstream her. I remember them raising a big stink when the schools put the special ed classes in 2 “temporary” classrooms in the high school (mobile trailer classrooms parked next to the school) so that the only contact with regular kids was at lunch time. This was the early 70’s. The next year, if I recall correctly, the special ed classes were in the main building, and some others were in the overflow.

My sister eventually moved out, and lived independently in her own condo. She became an ardent supporter of the local college women’s BB team, going to all the home games.

Mainstreaming as much as possible was definitely to the benefit of the functioning of those who were higher functioning. And for all I know, perhaps there was even some benefit to those who appeared to have little cognition.
