Credulity: Stretched
By Mitch Berg
What Jim Graves Says: “Even though his would-be rivalRep. Michele Bachmann has decided to forgo running for re-election, 6th District DFL candidate Jim Graves said he’s not looking to change his campaign’s message or strategy going forward.”
What I’ll Bet Dimes To Dollars Is Really Happening At Graves HQ: “Dammit! We spent big bucks for those doctored “crazy eyes” posters! Now what the f**k are we going to plaster all over Anoka?”

He might have to actually run on the issues and the last 6 years of the Obama Regime!

His National fundraising machine has instantly run out of fuel.

We talk about how the left demonizes their opponents and use personal attacks instead of running on issues…….Republican Mike McFadden announces yesterday that he is challenging Crazy Al Frankin. Democrats immediately attack him. Slander his character.
Reading the article, McFadden sounds like an adult. I hope he gets several debates against the recovering cocaine addict.

The Democrats sent in a national organizer/campaigner to work full time for Graves. My take……they have to rethink their whole campaign.

Methinks the Dems will look at the solidly red 6th and without the Bachmann feather they will redeploy their money and consultants to more toss-up battles.

Yep. All other things being equal, they’ll want to protect Walz, Nolan and Peterson instead in what’s likely to be a bad year for Democrats.

Here in the Sixth, we’re taking nothing for granted. Yes, Graves is an empty suit as a candidate. Yes, his issues page is filled with pleasant-sounding platitudes.
That said, the DCCC would love nothing better than winning this seat, much in the way that Republicans loved gloating over winning Ted Kennedy’s seat.
There’s no questioning the fact that Graves is a man of great accomplishments. That said, there’s no questioning that he isn’t a politician or policy wonk.

Chuck, Graves has completely rethought his campaign, and dropped out.

Although I don’t live in the Sixth, I have always been fond of Ms. Bachmann if for no other reason, the fear she seemed to have struck in the hearts of her opponents.
Most likely, the prospect of underwriting his own campaign, not the “the wicked witch is dead,” had more to do with it than his self-described riding off into the sunset like Shane (minus the six-guns of course) after vanquishing the bad guys.
However, I can’t help but wonder if Ms. Bachmann didn’t get a similar message first from the GOP and their bankers basically advising her that she was too “high maintenance” to keep supporting. Faced with the same situation that I believe Graves was, she also opted out.
I’d like to think not, but she was quite polarizing, and with the newfound momentum that the GOP might be developing, they might have felt that her presence was not beneficial to their aspirations. It would fit the GOPs penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in its never-ending desire to be mainstream. Perhaps Arne Carlson (the bitter old nun) could be persuaded to come out of retirement.
